What is RAMP-UP?

RAMP-UP  is an international doctoral training programme coordinated by Lund Stem Cell Center atLund University and delivered in partnership with Leiden University Medical CenterHannover Medical School, and the Technical University of Denmark. The programme covers the full ATMP value chain, from discovery and clinical translation to manufacturing, regulation, and innovation.

The programme is co-funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions COFUND scheme (Grant Agreement No. 101216514).

Call for PhD Applicants

RAMP-UP invites applications from motivated early-stage researchers aiming to pursue a PhD in regenerative medicine and ATMPs within a structured, interdisciplinary, and international environment.

Doctoral candidates will be recruited to predefined PhD projects and employed at one of the host institutions. Each position includes international mobility, secondments, and a tailored training and career development programme.

Candidate Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) by the start of employment
  • Be eligible for doctoral enrolment at the host institution
  • Not hold a doctoral degree
  • Comply with the MSCA mobility rule (no more than 12 months in the host country during the 36 months prior to call deadline)

Employment Conditions, Salary & Benefits

  • Duration: 48 months, full-time
  • Contract: Employment at the host institution
  • Salary: Competitive salary in line with national employment conditions. Variations in monthly gross salaries depend on differences in the national employer-paid taxes and social security contributions.
  • Mobility allowance: Additional allowance to support international mobility.
  • Research and Training Budget: Allocated funds for research-related expenses, as well as for participation in summer/winter schools, conferences, networking events, and secondment opportunities.
  • Benefits: Full social security coverage, including pension contributions, healthcare, paid leave, and parental benefits

Lund University (Sweden)

Salary, pension, and terms of employment are in accordance with Swedish national regulations and collective agreements applicable at Lund University ,

Monthly gross salary begins at 34,200 SEK/month, approximately EUR 3208 /month.

A mobility allowance of 670 sek/month, approximately 65 €/month after employer taxes and social charge deduction.

The position is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for four years. Provisions regarding employment as a doctoral fellow can be found in the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100), Chapter 5, Sections 1–7. More about terms of employment available on the staff pages . 

Leiden University Medical Center (The Netherlands)

Salary, pension, and terms of employment are governed by Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch UniversityMedical Centers.

Monthly gross salary begins at EUR 3108 (This amount is subject to changes in the above mentioned collective labour agreement, which are expected in 2026).

This gross salary includes a mobility allowance of 100 €/month, subject to the same employer taxes and social charges as the rest of the salary.

Employment as a PhD candidate is for a four-year fixed-term contract and is conditional upon successful enrolment in the PhD programme at Leiden University Medical Center. The PhD programme must be completed in accordance with the Dutch Higher Education and Research Act and the doctoral regulations of Leiden University.

Hannover Medical School (Germany)

Salary, pension, and terms of employment are in accordance with German national regulations and collective agreements applicable at Hannover Medical School.

Monthly gross salary begins at EUR 3058.

A mobility allowance of 100 €/month (may be subject to employer taxes and social charges).

Employment as a PhD researcher is for a fixed duration of four years, subject to successful admission to doctoral studies at Hannover Medical School.

The PhD degree must be completed in accordance with the doctoral regulations of Hannover Medical School and the relevant German higher education laws.

Technical University of Denmark (Denmark)
