The Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon (ICS-ULisboa) is calling for applications for one (1) Research Grant for a PhD student, as part of the research project "Shadows: Study on the caregiving experiences of siblings of children with cancer," funded by its own resources and coordinated by Dr. Ana Patrícia Hilário at the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon, under the following conditions:

Skills/Qualifications

Under the coordination of the Principal Investigator, the grant holder will perform the following tasks:

a) support bibliographic research;

b) transcribe interviews;

c) analyze qualitative data;

d) participate in national and international scientific events;

e) support the organization of workshops, seminars, and conferences;

f) support the development of infographics;

g) supporting the preparation of a research brief;

h) supporting the writing of scientific articles and chapters in English, in co-authorship.


Specific Requirements

Candidates should possess as mandatory requirements:

a) Enrollment or Declaration of Commitment to enroll in a PhD program in Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology, or Human Geography.

 

Candidates should have the following preferential requirements

a) Written and spoken command of English and Portuguese;

b) Knowledge of qualitative research methodologies;

c) Experience in qualitative data processing and analysis;

d) Experience in national and/or international research projects.

Workplace: Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon.

Scientific Orientation: The grant holder will be supervised by Dr Ana Patrícia Hilário, the project coordinator.

Duration of the grant: The grant will last for 12 months, possibly renewable up to the limits established in article 5 of the University of Lisbon's Research Grant Regulations or until the end of the project.

Amount of monthly maintenance allowance and Social Security:

The monthly maintenance allowance is €1,309.64 (one thousand three hundred and nine euros and sixty-four cents), paid monthly by bank transfer.

The grant holder to be hired may exercise their right to social security by joining the voluntary social insurance scheme, under the terms of the Research Grant Holder's Statute, with ICS-ULisboa assuming the costs resulting from the contributions provided for in that Statute.


Eligibility criteria

Selection methods and how they are valued:

The applicable selection methods will be a curricular assessment and a selection interview.

The selection interview will be carried out with the three candidates with the best score in the curriculum evaluation, provided they score 4.5 points or more.

Candidates will be selected on the basis of the terms of reference set out in paragraph 2 of this Notice, taking into account:

a) Curricular assessment, taking into account the objectives of the project and the specific nature of the research work to be carried out, considering the preferential requirements listed in point 2.2 and other relevant factors, such as publications, participation in congresses and involvement in civil society activities relevant to the project, valued from 1 to 10 points (50%); 

b) Letter of Motivation, referred to in point 13.2 c), valued from 1 to 10 points (10%); 

c)Proven experience, considering the specific tasks of the project, valued from 1 to 10 points (10%);

d) Selection interview to assess motivation and competences, valued from 1 to 10 points (30%).

Composition of the Selection Board: Dr Ana Patrícia Hilário (President), Dr Fábio Rafael Augusto (1st Effective Member), who will replace the President when she is absent or unable to attend, Dr Vanessa Cunha (2nd Effective Member).

Prior hearing and notification of interested parties: All candidates will be notified of the final result of the evaluation, sent to the email address used to send their application, and/or by mail, to the address on the Personal Data Form in Annex, through a list in descending order of the final evaluation obtained. Candidates may exercise the right of prior hearing, in writing, within ten working days from the notification. For that purpose, candidates may request the minutes to be sent by e-mail or consult the procedure documents in person at the Institute during office hours.
