A research position for one Research Grant (“Bolsa de Investigação”) is open under the scope of the research project “i-DINSystem - Intelligent and Dynamic thermal INsulation System for adaptive modular facades”, under the following conditions:

Admission requirements:

Students enrolled in a Masters in Civil Engineering, or related areas, or graduates or masters in Civil Engineering, enrolled in a non-academic degree course integrated in the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units.

The proof of registration must be completed until contracting, and the candidate may attach a declaration on honor that he/she meets the admission requirements.

If the degree was conferred by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law 66/2018, of August 16th, and Portaria 33/2019, of January 25th, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the date of contracting.

Preferential conditions:

Preferential conditions are: i) skills and previous experience in the computational simulation of thermal and energetic performance of buildings and building components; ii) skills and previous experience in the support of laboratory activities in Building Physics.

Work plan:

The selected candidate will be responsible for the following tasks: 1) computational simulation of the thermal and energetic performance of buildings and building components; and 2) support in the preparation and execution of laboratory tests to assess the thermal properties of building components.

Work place and orientation:

The research will be developed at School of Technology and Management of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, under the scientific orientation of Professor Ricardo Manuel dos Santos Ferreira de Almeida.

Fellowships duration:

The fellowship will have a duration of 4 months, with the possibility of renewal.

Amount of monthly maintenance allowance:

The amount of the grant is € 1040.98, in accordance to the monthly maintenance subsidies, set out by FCT. (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Tabela_valores_SMM_2025.pdf Payment of the scholarship is made between the 20th and 30th of each month through transfer to the NIB of the Scholarship Holder indicated in the Contracting Process.

Selection methods:

The selection and ranking methods to be used will be the following: curriculum assessment and selection interview. The Final Classification, used for the ranking of candidates, is expressed on a scale from 0 to 20 points and is given by the following formula:

CF = 0.6×AC + 0.4×ES, in which AC = 0.6×HA + 0.4×EX

being CF = Final Classification, AC = Curriculum Assessment, ES = Selection Interview, HA = Academic degree an EX = Previous experience in the use of infrared thermography to assess body temperature. All the parameters are evaluated in a scale from 0 to 20 points.

The best three candidates in criterion AC will selected for the interview.

The jury reserves the right not to award the research grant in the competition depending on the result of the evaluation of the applications and the adequacy or not to the objectives of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu.

Candidates holding degrees issued by foreign higher education institutions may apply and will be evaluated according to the same criteria as candidates holding degrees issued by Portuguese institutions, if they present, along with their application, proof of recognition of academic degrees and conversion of the final classification to the Portuguese classification scale under the terms of the Portuguese legislation. Candidates with foreign degrees who do not present proof of conversion of their final classification to the Portuguese classification scale will be evaluated with the minimum classification. In any case, scholarship contracts with candidates holding degrees awarded by foreign institutions will only be concluded upon presentation of proof of recognition of academic degrees and conversion of the final classification, as mentioned above.

Form of publication/notification of results:

The final results of the selection process will be published in an ordered list posted in a visible and public place of the Central Services of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu; candidates will be notified by email.

By deliberation of the jury, a pool of candidates may be constituted.

The final results will always be subject to the mandatory compliance with the provisions of the Research Fellowship Statute.

The successful candidate must submit a written statement expressing their intention to accept the scholarship. In case of non-acceptance, the scholarship will be awarded to the next candidate on the list ordered according to the Final Classification of the admitted candidates.

After disclosure of the evaluation results project, candidates have 10 working days to complain, if they so wish, under the terms of the Code of Administrative Procedure (CPA). The final decision will be taken within a maximum period of 15 working days after the conclusion of the prior hearing of interested parties, from which a claim may be filed within 15 working days, after notification in accordance with the provisions of article 10 of the Regulation of Research grants from the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu.

The models for the contract and the final report to be presented by the selected candidate and the scientific advisor are available in Regulation for Studentships and Fellowships of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu.

The call is open in the period between 16/01/2026 a 29/01/2026 . Only applications submitted within the established deadline will be accepted.

Applications must be organized in a pdf file, named according to full name of the candidate, and formalized, obligatorily, by sending an email to ipv_nbolseiro@sc.ipv.pt , indicating the reference “Project i-DINSystem” in the Subject, and including the following documents:

(1) Motivation / Presentation Letter, in which the candidate explains the reasons for his application, his academic and professional background, his areas of interest and how they fit into the defined work plan. It must be dated and signed;

(2) Detailed Curriculum vitae, with telephone contact, email, documents considered relevant by the candidate. It must be dated and signed;

(3) Documents proving that it meets the admission requirements required in this call;

(4) Declaration under oath on how the candidate will enroll, up to the date of contracting, in a master's degree or in a non-academic degree course integrated in the educational project of a higher education institution, under the terms required as conditions of admission, or proof of the mentioned registrations.

(5) Recommendation letter (not mandatory).
