Position Summary:

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Work Assistant within the Molecular Biology & Biochemistry Department at the Rutgers Cancer Institute.
Directly under the supervision of the White Laboratory, the Work Assistant will perform supervised research in the area of cancer metabolism. The goal of the summer program is to inspire, motivate and educate the student through mentored cancer research training, co-curricular support, and professional development activities.
The Work Assistant will engage in research and program related activities focusing on cancer under the supervision of the Program Director/Research Mentors. They will learn valuable research skills (experimental, and laboratory techniques) as well as professional career development skills under direct supervision of the Principal Investigator/Research Mentor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

• Receives hands-on training in cutting-edge cancer research.
• Conducts research in mentor-supervised laboratories in summer.
• Participates in educational seminars as available.
• Receives compensation for their time.
• Attends workshops, seminars, lectures and career development activities as available.
• Understands and adheres to Rutgers' compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy. Understands, demonstrates and models the Rutgers Cancer Institute core values.

Minimum Education and Experience:

• Must be a current college student who wishes to prepare for a STEM career, preferably in biomedical cancer research.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing.
• No special vision requirements.
• Lifting up to 25 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Lab environment. Moderate noise.
• Exposure to blood, excrement, antineoplastic drugs and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory.
• Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
