Oxford College, a unique two-year liberal arts college within Emory University, located 36 miles east of Atlanta on Emory’s original campus in Oxford, Georgia, invites applications for a full-time, benefits eligible, Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry for the 2026-2027 academic year, beginning in August 2026. This position may be renewed for up to three years total, pending enrollment, curricular need, and performance evaluations.
The successful candidate will teach two lecture sections and the accompanying laboratories, or the equivalent which may be a combination of first-year lecture and laboratory courses, with the potential for additional assignments depending on expertise. They will play a key role in the first two years of Emory’s novel integrated chemistry curriculum . The first course in the two-year sequence begins with Chemistry 150 which introduces atomic and molecular structure including conformation and stereochemistry. The sequence ends with Chemistry 205 which introduces physical chemistry concepts with an emphasis on the interaction of light and matter. The lecture and laboratory courses are taught alongside a cohort of faculty colleagues in Oxford College’s state-of-the-art science facility designed to promote student-faculty collaboration, scholarship, and innovative teaching in STEM.
Qualifications:
Required—MS, PhD, or PhD completion expected by May 2026, in chemistry or a related discipline.
Preferred—Candidates with the potential to teach introductory and physical chemistry courses and a strong interest in teaching discovery-based laboratory experiences for undergraduates are particularly encouraged to apply.
