Job Summary
Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leads are students who facilitate weekly group study sessions in courses that they have successfully completed.
SI Leads utilize collaborative learning techniques to ensure peer-to-peer interaction in small groups.
They plan and implement weekly sessions that guide students through difficult course concepts and share strategies they and others used to be successful in the course.
SI Leads are appointed for 1 semester and typically work 3-6 hours per week; frequency/duration to be determined before the semester begins and modified as needed to suit the needs of the learners and the availability of the SI Lead.
SI Leads may also be asked to conduct one-on-one tutoring for students who have been identified as in need of additional academic support by the course instructor and Student Affairs.
Only Doctorate of Physical Therapy students that qualify for Work Study will be considered.
Responsibilities
• Reviews course syllabi and meets with faculty to identify essential course concepts and topics
• Conducts weekly SI sessions
• Facilitates interactive learning activities that integrate study strategies with course content
• Prepares questions/topics to be covered during the SI session
• Conducts exam review sessions
• Takes initiative, time permitting, to learn active teaching techniques and to create study materials that support course objectives
• Creates a learning culture that ensures students of varying academic levels are able to benefit from SI
• Records attendance of sessions and completes reports on topics covered and student engagement with the sessions
Minimum Qualifications
