Job Summary
Job Summary: The Upward Bound program at Bowdoin College seeks a Math Instructor for the 2026 Residential Scholars summer program. This position will provide math instruction across multi-levels from Algebra 1 to Pre-Calculus, based on participant experience and needs. The Math Instructor will design a multi-level course that provides both foundational review and preparation for upcoming math concepts. The successful candidate will have experience across the math curriculum, demonstrated ability to provide differentiated instruction to a variety of learners in a single class.
The UB summer program aims to foster a community-oriented environment where every student is challenged with support to step out of their comfort zone and reach for their dreams. The Residential Scholars program is. 4 week academic program designed to support college readiness and success.
Upward Bound is a federally funded program through the US Department of Education serving low-income, first-generation college bound students from 14 high schools in Maine. dedicated to empowering and supporting first-generation and low-income high school students in their pursuit of higher education. The program mission is to provide comprehensive academic, personal, and career development services that foster a commitment to lifelong learning, leadership, and community engagement. Through individualized mentoring, rigorous academic preparation, and a nurturing environment, we strive to equip our students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence necessary to succeed in college and beyond.
Education/Skills Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required.
Secondary (7-12) teaching certification in mathematics preferred.
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
3-5 years experience teaching high school math from Algebra to Pre-Calc preferred.
Experience with low-income, first generation college bound populations preferred.

Standard Work Days and Hours
Upward Bound summer camp is held on the Bowdoin College campus.
Program dates & teaching schedule:
June 24 – July 16, 2026 (July 4 break July 3 & 6)
Class time of M/W/F 10:30-11:45 am
Estimated time commitment of 20-25 hours per week while camp is in session. This time includes developing course curriculum, planning and prep time, grading and student meetings outside of class.
Estimated compensation based on hours worked: $3500
