Training & QA Program Coordinator

University Animal Care, at the University of Arizona, is in search of a Training & QA Program Coordinator. The Training & QA Program coordinator leads the coordination, standardization, and continuous improvement of the department’s training and procedural documentation programs across multiple animal care and research facilities.

This position develops and maintains a centralized training ecosystem to ensure consistent, high-quality training for staff and research personnel engaged in animal husbandry, veterinary care and support operations while accommodating site-specific operational needs. The role oversees curriculum development, SOP lifecycle management, training documentation, and digital learning resources related to animal management and regulated research environments. Working closely with subject-matter experts, compliance partners, and facility trainers, the coordinator ensures training materials remain current, accessible, and aligned with institutional and regulatory requirements governing animal care and welfare. The position also maintains the public-facing training website and supports modernization of training systems and workflows.

University Animal Care (UAC) manages multiple centralized animal facilities at the University of Arizona and oversees the campus wide animal care and use program. UAC provides assistance to scientists, physicians, staff, and students who have received Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) approval to perform research, testing, or educational studies on animal subjects. UAC ensures humane and appropriate animal care and use by providing for the animals daily needs, veterinary care, and monitoring the use of the animals by principal investigators, technical personnel, and students. Training Program Coordination & Standardization

• Lead the coordination and continuous improvement of department-wide training programs across multiple facilities. Standardize training approaches while supporting site-specific operational differences. Coordinate on boarding, role-based training, continuing education, and collaboration among facility trainers, ACMs and subject-matter experts including training related to animal husbandry, biosecurity, sanitation, animal welfare monitoring, and facility specific operation.

SOP & Documentation Lifecycle Management

• Manage the centralization, organization, and ongoing maintenance of the departmental SOP archive and training documentation. Establish workflows for version control, scheduled review, updates, and accessibility. Ensure alignment between current procedures and training materials reflecting standards of animal care, housing, environmental enrichment, sanitation, and welfare oversight. 

Training Records, Compliance & Quality Assurance

• Maintain systems to track training completion, competency verification in animal husbandry, and required compliance training related to animal care and research activities. Coordinate with institutional partners (EHS, Occupational Health, IACUC) and support audits, reporting, and quality improvement initiatives.

Curriculum Development & Learning Materials

• Lead the development and updating of training curricula, instructional materials, SOPs and on line learning modules for UAC staff and research personnel. Apply professional learning and competency-based training principles to improve training effectiveness and address identified gaps.

Training Systems & Digital Resources

• Maintain and update the training and SOPs section on the department’s website and the digital learning resources. Support the use and improvement of institutional learning platforms and identify opportunities to modernize training delivery and documentation systems.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design, and competency-based training approaches.
• Knowledge of document control, version management, and quality assurance practices in regulated or compliance-driven environments.
• Ability to coordinate complex programs and collaborate effectively with stakeholders across multiple locations.
• Skill in developing clear, user-focused training materials, job aids, and procedural documentation.
• Ability to analyze training needs, evaluate program effectiveness, and implement continuous improvement strategies.
• Ability to translate operational animal care procedures into structured, competency-based training materials.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

• Experience with captive animal care, animal husbandry operations, veterinary, agricultural or research animal facility environments preferred.
• Experience with regulatory frameworks governing animal care and research preferred.
