Position Summary

The College of Fine Arts Main Campus anticipates hiring Adjunct Faculty to teach in the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters in the DEPARTMENT OF ART.

Anticipated openings include the following subjects:   Art Education, Art Studio, Art History

Positions are contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment levels, current course offering matrix, and demand driven by graduation requirements.  Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses. Candidates who are selected for these positions will report to Department Chair, Lee Montgomery.

November 01, 2026 for Spring semester 2027

Candidates will remain in the pooled position queue for the 26-27 academic year or until notified directly. 


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications-to teach or develop courses in the field or subfield for which you are applying are determined by Higher Learning Commission’s accreditation requirements for faculty, and must be met by one of these ways:

For Art Studio/ Art History:

  •   Master’s degree or terminal degree in the discipline or subfield.

For Art Education:

  •  Master’s degree or terminal degree in art education or subfield of education or studio art. 
  • Successful minimum of 3-5 years of art teaching experience in pre-K 12th grade school settings. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successful teaching experience in a post-secondary institution.

For Art Education specifically, successful teaching experience in a post-secondary institution. Experience mentoring art education student teacher candidates. Flexible schedule and ability to travel to conduct student teacher observations. And/OR Experience teaching with new media/technology in Prek-12th grade art education classrooms.  

  • A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.

Area Specific Requests: For Art Ed, sample syllabus(i) from courses you have taught and/or course descriptions and student work samples from Prek-12th grade art curriculum. For studio instruction consideration, please provide portfolio images of current artwork. For art history instruction consideration, please provide a writing sample.
