Position Summary:
The Performing and Visual Arts Academic Advisor serves several significant functions for the College of Performing
and Visual Arts with a focus on the School of Theatre Arts and Dance. This position develops all retention
and enrollment management strategies in conjunction with the School Director and Associate Dean. Serving as a liaison, this position is responsible for understanding/helping to communicate the special intricacies of the School degree offerings. The staff member’s knowledge of the School curriculum will serve them in their role as the Advisor for all School majors, minors and
seeking students.
Job Duties:
• Develop the advising system and its implementation within the School(s).
• Recommend to the School Director(s) course offerings through advising process.
• Analyze student data based on advising and track attrition, time to graduation and retention rates.
• Identify high risk students for early intervention, conduct out-reach and monitor students on academic probation with the program.
• Maintain and track all data sets for student advising, course scheduling, retention rates, and time to graduation
• Assign Faculty advisors to all majors and collaborate with faculty members on graduation plans for students.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required
Two years of professional experience in advising, admissions, recruitment, and/or retention or related field
Shall possess excellent public speaking, written and interpersonal communication skills
Attention to detail
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, DegreeWorks and Slate
