Job Description


Virginia Peninsula Community College is a two-year institution of higher education established as a part of a statewide system of community colleges. It primarily serves the residents of the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York.
Provides programmatic and administrative support on both campuses for the federally-funded TRiO – SSS project, which targets retention/graduation/transfer of low-income, first generation and/or students with disabilities enrolled in transfer curriculum and who have potential to successfully matriculate to four-year college/university.
This position is responsible for all the administrative and management support to the TRiO offices on each campus to ensure efficient operations. Responsibilities include supporting the implementation of student engagement and retention strategies by distributing marketing communications and reminders as well as organizing and issuing instructional/workshop material to support academic and personal success; creating and maintaining documents and files; serving as the office’s travel and purchasing point of contact and collaborating to maintain and reconcile the budget. This position provides services to meet the TRiO grant’s enrollment, retention, graduation, and transfer objectives. Oversee the performance of work-studies. Perform other duties as assigned.
This is a full-time, restricted classified position. Continuation of employment is based on funding availability.
Work schedules may vary during recruitment and student travel events.
This position is designated as Campus Security Authority (Clery Act) and Responsible Employee (Title IX).

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Experience working in an office setting and working with a diverse student population specifically
  • Work-related office experience includes administrative duties and budget and procurement processes.
  • High-school diploma.

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of office management responsibilities, systems procedures.

Skills
  • Highly proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office 365
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, attention to detail, and time management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
