Summary

The Supplemental Instructor (SI) for BA 1600 is a peer leader who facilitates student learning and success in Business Math and Computational Calculus. The SI will provide academic support through in-class assistance, office hours, and review/recitation sessions. The SI plays a crucial role in creating a collaborative and supportive learning environment for students.

Essential Functions

  • Attend Class Regularly: The SI will attend all scheduled BA 1600 lectures and actively participate in class activities. This includes taking notes, engaging in discussions, and asking questions.
  • In-Class Assistance: The SI will work alongside the instructor to facilitate in-class activities, such as group work, problem-solving sessions, and discussions.
  • Hold Office Hours: The SI will hold regular office hours to provide individual or small group tutoring and support to students struggling with course concepts.
  • Hold Review/Recitation Sessions: The SI will facilitate review and recitation sessions outside of class, covering key course concepts, problem-solving techniques, and exam preparation strategies.
  • Tutoring Assistance: The SI will be available to provide additional tutoring assistance to students who need extra support, up to 5-7 hours per week.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Full-Time BGSU Student: Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student at Bowling Green State University.
  • Successful Completion of BA 1600: Must have previously earned a passing grade in BA 1600.
  • Preferred Major: Business major preferred, but not required.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Ability to communicate complex mathematical concepts clearly and effectively to peers.
  • Patient and Approachable: Ability to create a welcoming and supportive environment for students seeking help.
  • Excellent Time Management Skills: Ability to balance academic commitments with SI responsibilities.


Additional Information

  • Time Commitment: Approximately 15 hours per week, with 10 hours dedicated to scheduled activities and 5-7 hours for flexible tutoring assistance.
  • Preference given to applicant who can tutor Fall 2026 and Spring 2027.
