New Sooner Orientation (NSO) is a key part of every new student's successful transition to OU. Incoming freshman and transfer students will attend NSO days on campus with their parents/guardians/supporters for a full day program where they will be advised, enroll in courses, and hear from various offices on campus to learn about resources students will need throughout their time at OU.
The Spanish Language Support Orientation Intern serves as a primary presenter and translator for Spanish-speaking families during New Sooner Orientation. This role is responsible for delivering Orientation content in Spanish, ensuring families receive clear, accurate, and welcoming information throughout their experience.
Working closely with the New Sooner Orientation team and the Office of Parent and Family Programs, this position will actively translate and adapt presentation materials, deliver full presentations in Spanish during Supporter Orientation Sessions, and provide real-time interpretation for families as needed.
This is a highly visible role that requires strong communication skills, confidence in public speaking, and the ability to engage and support families in a professional and welcoming manner.

Responsibilities:
Serve as a primary Spanish-language presenter during Supporter Orientation Sessions, delivering full presentations to Spanish-speaking families.
Collaborate with the NSO team and the Office of Parent and Family Programs to translate, adapt, and refine presentation materials into Spanish, ensuring accuracy and cultural relevance.
Provide real-time verbal interpretation for Spanish-speaking families during Orientation programming and key transition moments throughout the day.
Act as a dedicated resource for Spanish-speaking families, particularly during times when students and supporters are separated (e.g., advising sessions), ensuring families feel informed and supported.
Foster a welcoming environment that helps Spanish-speaking families feel confident navigating the university experience.
Maintain a strong understanding of Orientation content and university resources to accurately communicate information and respond to questions.
Support limited operational aspects of Orientation (e.g., check-in or stadium send-off) as needed, while prioritizing responsibilities related to Spanish-language support.
Participate in staff training, including preparation, practice, and feedback for Spanish-language presentations.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements

Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in a combination of two terms as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.
Must attach Fall, Spring, and/or Summer OU class schedule
Qualifications:
Fluency in Spanish and English, with the ability to confidently present and interpret in live settings.
Demonstrated experience with public speaking, facilitation, or presenting to groups, preferably in Spanish.
Ability to translate and communicate complex information clearly and accurately across languages.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage families in a professional and welcoming manner.
Ability to work collaboratively with professional staff and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
Currently enrolled student at the University of Oklahoma in good academic standing.
Preferred Skills:
Experience presenting, teaching, or facilitating in Spanish-language settings.
Experience translating written materials or adapting content for Spanish-speaking audiences.
Experience working with families, communities, or educational programs.
Demonstrated leadership, professionalism, and ability to work independently in a highly visible role.
Applicants should be flexible to adapt in various situations and be able to quickly think on their feet.
Applicants need to be highly motivated, organized, timely, welcoming, and familiar with the OU campus and resources.
Applicants should be in good academic standing with the University of Oklahoma.
Each applicant will be subject to background checks and Student Misconduct check per the Minors on Campus Policy. Guides will not be hired until completed.

Must be able to crouch, pull, push, reach, stand, engage in repetitive motions, grasp, walk, feel, touch, speak, hear, and see.
Must be able to lift/carry a minimum of 30 lbs.
Must be able to spend extended hours indoors and outdoors for work.
