Position Summary

Academic Technologies is seeking a highly skilled, detail-oriented student to serve as an advanced technician on the Site Team (Student Advanced Level.) This position focuses on advanced technical support, system maintenance, and deployment within computer classroom pods and SITES-managed environments.

This role is designed for experienced student technicians who can work independently on complex technical issues while also supporting the technical development of other student staff. The Student Advanced Level reports directly to the SITES Supervisor and works closely with Supervisors and Leads to support infrastructure, troubleshoot escalated issues, and assist with technical implementations.

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong technical problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and the ability to execute tasks with minimal supervisio

This position is responsible for handling advanced technical tasks, supporting system-level troubleshooting, and assisting in the deployment and maintenance of lab and classroom technologies. This role also contributes to improving team-wide technical consistency by assisting with training, support and knowledge sharing.

Duties and responsibilities include:

Provide advanced troubleshooting and resolution for hardware, software, and classroom technology issues

Handle escalated tickets and complex technical problems beyond standard SCON support

Assist with imaging, deployment, and configuration of computers and lab systems

Perform routine system maintenance, updates, and testing to ensure optimal performance

Support implementation of new technologies, software rollouts, and classroom upgrades

Monitor system performance and identify recurring issues or areas for improvement

Document technical procedures, troubleshooting steps, and system configurations

Assist in maintaining inventory and tracking of equipment and technical assets

Work closely with Supervisors to support operational needs and technical initiatives

Ensure all work is completed in alignment with department standards and best practices

Technical & Training Support Responsibilities:

Assist in developing and refining technical documentation, setup guides, and troubleshooting workflows

Provide guidance and informal training to SCON staff on technical procedures and best practices

Support onboarding of new student technicians by demonstrating tools, systems, and workflows

Help identify common knowledge gaps and contribute to improving training materials

Collaborate with supervisors and leads to ensure consistency in technical processes and standards

Submit key and code requests as necessary to support lab access and operations. 

Minimum Qualifications

Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (audit hours do not count.),

Minimum of one year experience as a student technician (SCON) in Academic Technologies or equivalent technical role

Strong understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, and common software applications

Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot technical issues independently

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with system imaging, deployment tools, or lab management environments

Familiarity with Windows/Mac OS configuration and troubleshooting

Experience working with ticketing systems (e.g., Help Desk systems)

Basic networking knowledge (IP, connectivity troubleshooting, etc.)

Experience documenting technical processes or creating guides

Experience mentoring or supporting peers in a technical environment

Strong organizational and analytical skills
