Stanford Securities Litigation Analytics is a research center within Stanford Law School focusing on public company shareholder litigation and corporate governance matters. SSLA closely collaborates with legal practitioners and risk managers to pursue research questions with practical applications. SSLA's Social Science Research Professional position is designed for recent college or master's program graduates and for those considering graduate school, law school, and/or business school in the future.

This position reports to the Executive Director of the SSLA project, and the SSLA Fellow & Research Manager. In this position, you will be responsible for data collection, data analysis, drafting blog posts, articles and reports, and the expansion of the database into new areas of corporate and securities litigation. You will also use various research tools, such as Bloomberg Law, Lexis Securities Mosaic, Sentieo, CRSP and Compustat/CapIQ financial database, etc.

DUTIES:

• Plan and perform research tasks requiring initiative and judgment by applying knowledge and understanding of federal and state-level civil procedure to make informed decisions about data categorization. Aggregate and review court filings, SEC disclosures, academic papers, news reports and industry publications.
• Communicate with research collaborators and industry practitioners.
• Work with other SSLA researchers and developers to identify opportunities for improving data quality and research methodology.
• Extract data from research sources and enter it into SSLA databases related to corporate and securities litigation.
• Conduct statistical analyses of data in those databases.
• Under supervision of Research and Fellow Manager, perform regular data quality/audit checks and present results in tables or web reports; ensure compliance with SSLA research and data collection protocols.
• Identify, select, extract and summarize data: produce general data reports using R or Stata; provide tailored data reports as requested by Manager or SSLA Leadership.
• Conduct literature reviews in connection with ongoing SSLA research for publication and distribution to data licensees, securities law practitioners, and other academic researchers.
• Draft portions of research papers, blog posts, and presentations, which may be published in academic journals, SSLA blog, or other industry publications or presented to data licensees.
• Build and organize data as requested by Manager or licensee. Use R, Stata or AI tools to provide various iterations of project data for ongoing research.
• Assist with development, communication and design of research findings to internal and external audiences, which may include web, blog, updates, drafting and editing academic papers, and regular licensee email blasts.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in the social sciences or another relevant field, or combination of education and relevant experience in an applicable social science.

• General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs.

• Programming experience in Stata or R is preferred, but not required

• Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.

• Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.

• Effective oral and written communication skills.

Fellowships last for one year, with the opportunity to renew for up to two additional years, based on performance and mutual agreement of fellow and SLS.

The expected pay range for this position is $34.00 to $40.41 per hour.
