| Organizational Unit Overview | University Communication (UC) translates ECU’s message into strategic and compelling communication and campaigns through the university website, news releases, its official social media, East magazine, storytelling, production of promotional videos and video news stories along with infographics, creation and development of promotional brochures, and annual reports. The purpose is to provide strategic communication and marketing guidance and support to increase the knowledge, understanding, appreciation and support of the University and its work with broad and varied constituencies, from prospective students to identified thought leaders to prospective donors. Through ECU News Services UC performs media relations, public affairs, internal communication and strategic communication work on behalf of the university and reports and disseminates information about events, activities, research, policies, individuals and alumni of the University, through the media, videos, website and other owned publications and platforms. |
| Job Duties | The Social Media Coordinator for Strategy and Standards under the direction of the Manager of Digital Strategy develops and implements strategic content for East Carolina University’s flagship social media accounts, ECU News Services social media, and university leadership accounts — including Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Threads and YouTube — that have a combined audience of 430K+ followers. The Social Media Coordinator for Strategy and Standards is part of a three-person team that works closely and collaboratively to align priorities and content strategy. In addition to this role and the Manager of Digital Strategy, the team includes the Social Media Coordinator for Recruitment Strategy. The Social Media Coordinator for Strategy and Standards is a key part of the team that defines and evolves ECU’s online presence, working to increase visibility with target audiences while leveraging digital strategies to enhance student and community engagement, alumni relations and brand identity. |
| Minimum Education/Experience | Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |

| Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education | Membership in a professional communications organization. Volunteer work or previous employment relating to public relations and/or social media, writing, editing, graphic design, and desktop publishing is also of benefit. Prior experience as a social media manager, public relations coordinator, communications specialist, editor, writer, journalist, copywriter, event planner or project manager. Extensive knowledge of social media technology/software, writing skills, graphics production and AP Stylebook compliance. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, EMMA, Sprout Social, Monday.com, photo/video editing, and Giphy. |
