Description
This senior level mechanical technician position is an integral member of our campus services team and responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and operational support of complex mechanical systems across the University’s campus facilities.
The role involves advanced technical knowledge in HVAC systems, building automation systems (BAS), mechanical equipment, and related building infrastructure. The position frequently supports licensed system operations and may provide technical oversight or guidance to other maintenance personnel performing mechanical work. Specialized trade skills and one or more State of Maine mechanical trade licenses are required.

Responsibilities
  • Performs a variety of HVAC, Building Automation System (BAS) maintenance, Fleet vehicle operation, installation, and repair tasks, including complex installation and repair projects
  • Maintains an appropriate inventory of supplies and materials.
  • Plan, supervise and assist with daily maintenance operations related to the mechanical, automotive fleet, and/or electrical systems.
  • Provide training, technical guidance, and mentorship to Mechanical Maintenance staff in apprentice and journeyman roles, including instruction on licensed mechanical systems, troubleshooting, and safe work practices.
  • Coordinate project work with outside contractors and vendors and special projects.
  • Assist the Mechanical Services Lead in coordinating daily mechanical maintenance activities and may provide task direction or technical guidance to other maintenance personnel.
  • Complete, understand and comply with initial and annual employee regulatory compliance and safety training as assigned. Complies with all occupational safety and health standards, rules and regulations. Reports all hazards, unsafe work practices and accidents immediately to supervisor.
  • Provide technical support to other mechanical staff and assist in troubleshooting building automation and mechanical system performance issues.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • High school education, plus 5 years of relevant technical training and field experience.
  • One or more of the following State of Maine licenses is required: Boiler Operator License, Oil Burner Technician License, Gas Technician License, Master Plumber License, or other relevant mechanical trade licenses. Licensed personnel may be responsible for ensuring work performed on regulated mechanical systems complies with State licensing requirements. For automotive assignments, State of Maine Inspection and ASE certifications required.
  • Broad base of technical knowledge and skills related to heating, ventilation and air conditioning system installation, BAS maintenance and repair, as well as general plumbing and electrical systems.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and perform various physical activities including crouching, kneeling, stooping, reaching, balancing, crawling, and climbing ladders as necessary to fulfill job duties.
  • Primarily a Monday through Friday 1st shift job, but the ability to work evenings, weekends for winter storms, and an on-call rotation.
