Position Description:

The Office of Undergraduate Medical Education is seeking a Simulation Center Senior Manager. The Simulation Center Manager oversees the strategic direction, advanced operational management, and educational impact of the University of Louisville School of Medicine Simulation Center. This senior role is responsible for ensuring the center's development, implementation, improvement of its technological capabilities, and advancement of simulation-based training for medical students, residents, other healthcare professionals, and faculty. The Simulation Center Manager collaborates with leadership to develop long-range goals, foster innovative research, and serve as a liaison between the center, the university, and the broader medical community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee all day-to-day operations, including high-level oversight of equipment, scheduling, budget management, and quality control.
  • Lead the development and execution of long-term goals and strategies to expand the center's reach and influence within the university and beyond.
  • Work closely with university leadership to align simulation center objectives with the institution's mission and vision for medical education.
  • Spearhead initiatives to incorporate cutting-edge simulation practices and tools, supporting a forward-looking approach to healthcare training.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of simulation staff, including technical and administrative personnel, fostering professional growth and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with faculty to design, develop and implement complex simulation scenarios and courses for various levels of medical training.
  • Oversee BLS and ACLS training and the execution of simulation-based curricula for medical students and healthcare professionals.
  • Provide instructional guidance on simulation technology for faculty, ensuring they are well-prepared to deliver high-quality education using simulation tools.
  • Stay updated with advancements in medical simulation, advocating for adoption of new technologies and best practices to keep the center on the forefront of medical education.
  • Manage the simulation budget and coordinate procurement of new equipment, technology, and other advanced educational tools.
  • Collaborate with IT and other departments to ensure the simulation center's technology infrastructure supports current and future needs, including website updates, equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting. Implement strategies for efficient resource allocation, ensuring the center is equipped to meet educational demands and adapt to technological advancements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the higher education academic environment through work related experience.
  • 5 or more years of experience in simulation-based medical education, strong leadership skills, a blend of clinical and technical knowledge, and a commitment to driving innovation and research.
  • Advanced organizational and strategic planning abilities, as well as the capacity to engage with diverse audiences within and outside the university.
Competencies
  • Strong clinical background, particularly in simulation-based education.
  • High proficiency with simulation technologies, including high-fidelity simulators, task trainers and audiovisual systems, including VR.
  • Expertise in collaborating with leadership to create and oversee simulation curricula and training programs.
  • Ability to train and mentor instructors in simulation methods and technology.
  • Ability to stay current with educational technologies and medical simulation trends.
  • Openness to ongoing professional development and adaptability to a dynamic educational environment.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
