Description
The Senior Advisor plays a critical role in supporting DSW students’ research projects. Similar to a dissertation or capstone, DSW students complete research projects as part of their degree requirements. Senior Advisors serve as ‘chairs’ of the DSW research project committees, providing support, knowledge, guidance, and mentorship.

Responsibilities
  • Meet regularly with scholar-practitioners (at least monthly) via Zoom to support the development, completion, and dissemination of their DSW research projects
  • Support the development of ideas, research questions, concepts, and proposals
  • Serve as a mentor and advisor throughout DSW education
  • Attend research project meetings with committee members to ensure scholar-practitioners engage in ethical research and writing practices
  • For scholar-practitioners in the proposal stage, review documents and provide guidance to help advance the research process in a timely manner
  • Maintain CITI Certification
  • Access the DSW 820, 821, and 822 classrooms on Brightspace to review documents and assignments related to research projects and proposals
  • Attend the defense of research project proposals and project deliverables
  • Participate in monthly Senior Advisor Faculty Meetings held on Wednesdays at noon Eastern Time (at least twice per semester)
  • Communicate with the DSW Director regarding scholar-practitioner concerns or questions
  • Serve as a committee member for the comprehensive exam
Qualifications
Doctorally prepared (DSW or PhD in Social Work preferred); MSW required.
