About the Job
Job Description:
We are seeking a researcher to work on analysis and instrumentation for high-energy solar astrophysics. This researcher will play a leading role in the analysis of high-energy solar flare data, including solar flare particle acceleration; the formation and evolution of flare-related jets and/or coronal mass ejections; and hard X-ray diagnostics of solar coronal heating. Instrumentation development will be part of the scope of work, and experience with astronomical instrumentation is required.
Duties/Responsibilities:
30% Lead multi wavelength analysis of solar flares, especially high-energy aspects using hard X-rays, gamma rays, and/or radio data, using Python software and performing imaging and spectroscopy
30% Contribute to hardware development projects, including X-ray spectrometer experiments and payloads for sounding rockets, high altitude balloons, and CubeSats..
10 % Present science results at conferences, including national and international conferences and collaboration meetings.
10% Prepare and review manuscripts for publication
10% Supervise and mentor students in high-energy astrophysics projects.
10% Contribute and provide expertise to proposals for submission to funding agencies, including NASA and the NSF.
Other duties of a similar scope as assigned.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
PhD in Physics, Astrophysics, or a related field by beginning of appointment with one or more years of research training
Preferred Qualifications:
● Experience in the analysis of high-energy solar astrophysical data, including soft X-rays and hard X-rays.
● Experience working with space-based astronomical hardware.
● Experience with Python software development, including architecture of multi-user projects.

Pay Range: $80,000 to $88,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience
