Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
The Research Professor in Marsh Ecology will lead and conduct innovative research in marsh ecosystems, focusing on ecological processes, conservation, and restoration. The incumbent will serve as the Principal Investigator (PI) on federally-funded research grants, contributing to the advancement of scientific knowledge and the development of sustainable management practices for marsh environments.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
  • The ideal candidate holds a PhD in environmental studies, marine biology, ecology, or a closely related field, with more than 20 years of relevant professional experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
Preferred Qualifications
  • In addition to the minimum education and experience, they possess demonstrated expertise in measuring and modeling marsh elevation, porewater dynamics, and other key parameters critical to understanding coastal wetland systems. 
  • The candidate has a strong record of scholarly achievement, including successfully securing competitive research funding and leading complex research projects.
  • Additionally, they have substantial experience in science communication, evidenced by an established publication record in peer-reviewed literature.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • The position will entail project management, occasional fieldwork, data interpretation, presentations at national/international conferences, and other associated activities.
