RESEARCH ENGINEER I

Entry-level Mechanical Engineering position for UAB's Engineering and Innovative Technology Development (EITD) group.  Assist in the mechanical design, development, manufacture, maintenance, sustainment, and operational support of payload systems for space applications. Develop system-level documents and CAD drawings for complex engineering hardware and devices.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

·       Assists in design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems.

·       Support meetings, teleconferences, and travel as required by projects.

·       Reports to EITD Mechanical Engineering Section Lead

·       Performs simple and routine engineering design tasks with standard techniques.

·       Assists more senior engineers in the preparation of plans, designs, computation methods and reports.

Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

·       Mechanical Design experience using CAD software (SolidEdge or SolidWorks)

·       Mechanical Engineering design experience for the integration of mechanical and electrical systems

·       Mechanical Fabrication and Assembly experience

·       Mechanical Engineering experience for aerospace applications
