Job Description:
The Research Associate will work closely with the BBI Director of Research to conduct complex statistical analyses on disability related research questions and produce high-quality papers for prestigious journals and reports/ briefs for granting agencies. This includes leading projects using robust research designs such as randomized control trials, quasi-experimental designs, and other quantitative methods with an understanding of contemporary disability policies and issues.
In this mission critical position, the candidate will assist with designing project protocols, obtaining IRB approvals and maintaining IRB records, collecting data, interpreting and analyzing collected data, writing manuscripts, as well as providing input and attending project meetings and conference calls. They are also expected to contribute to the development of new grant proposals and research projects including study designs, research questions, survey questionnaires, and strategies for data analysis, among other activities.
This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200United.
Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Public Administration, Public Policy, Economics, Sociology, Disability Policy, Public Health, Social Science or related fields or Masters degree with at least 3 years of research experience.
  • Expertise in designing, supervising, and bringing research and evaluation projects to completion, using strong, reliable, and complex quantitative research methods.
  • Experience with rigorous quantitative research designs.
  • Understanding of contemporary disability policies and issues is a plus.
  • Experience analyzing large datasets, including representative survey data, and knowledge of Census data.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience with effectively translating research findings for diverse audiences.

Skills and Knowledge:
  • Expertise in designing and implementing quantitative research and evaluation.
  • Experience in managing complex research projects and producing high quality quantitative research reports, ensuring that protection of human subjects involved in the research are maintained per established protocols.
  • Demonstrated history of research excellence and/or a strong publication record.
  • Proficiency in inferential statistics, including the use of at least one common statistical package (such as SAS, SPSS, Stata, or R).
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and execute project activities; ability to manage multiple priorities, sometimes simultaneously, under deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and under general supervision to complete assigned tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with individuals across diverse backgrounds and at all organizational levels, including virtual work environments.
  • Strong organizational skills and high level of attention to detail.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement research projects.
  • Collect and analyze data.
  • Write reports, articles, and other pieces of dissemination; give presentations; assist in writing grant proposals.
  • Mentor students also working on sponsored projects.
  • Support administrative tasks related to funded projects and communication about Institute.
