Job Summary

The SAMHSA SBIRT project is designed to introduce screening and brief intervention for substance use disorders into the clinical environment of healthcare facilities, with a focus on adolescents and young adults. The Research Assistant shall be responsible for maintaining project-related databases, report generation and conducting follow-up interviews (as needed). This full-time position, which will operate under the direct auspices of the leadership team, (Project Director, Project Evaluators), will be responsible for maintaining project participation data that will guide leadership in assessing whether screening goals/project milestones are being met allowing project leadership to engage in real-time adjustments (as needed). It is assumed that a bachelor’s degree in psychology or related discipline will be required for this position. Some travel to the clinical site(s) may be needed.

This position is grant-funded; employment is contingent upon the continued availability of those funds. 

Essential Functions

  • Conduct screening interviews as needed.
  • Participate in weekly project planning meetings including disseminating project progress reports (i.e., recruitment, retention, follow-up rates).
  • This will include routine meetings with SAMHSA project officer. 
  • Manuscript preparation
  • Ensuring that all consent documents are completed and filed correctly. 
  • Clerical duties as required (including filing of patient information, maintenance of records (etc.). 
  • Accurate data entry of intake, interim and follow-up data into SPSS database maintained on premises. 
  • Assisting with Institutional Review Board requirements 
  • Contacting project participants at interim (i.e., 3 months) and 6-month follow-up to complete outcome measures. Administration and scoring of project follow-up measures. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology or a related discipline such as counseling or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Minimum of 1-2 Years of experience. 
  • 1-2 years’ experience managing a SAMHSA or similarly funded project.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the substance use treatment field in Philadelphia is a distinct advantage.

Additional Information
This position is classified as Non-Exempt, grade G. Compensation for this grade ranges from $15.58 to $23.37 per hour. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
