A Research Area Specialist position is available in the Michigan Institute for Imaging Technology and Translation (MIITT) in the Department of Radiology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. Applicants will work with Dr. Shane Wells (Associate Professor of Radiology and Urology) to research, develop, and translate technology to advance clinical application of MRI, Ultrasound, and interventional radiology techniques.
We are a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary team of scientists, physician-scientists, engineers, and students spanning undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral trainees. The primary focus of our translational research is the development and validation of quantitative imaging techniques (MRI and US) for patients with lower urinary tract symptoms. The primary focus of our preclinical research is the development and validation of imaging techniques (MRI and US) to improve tumor targeting and treatment confirmation during percutaneous thermal ablation procedures.
This work will include responsibility for translational and preclinical projects conducted by one or more faculty members within MIITT and/or in other departments. This work will also include collaboration with faculty, trainees and staff to ensure required regulatory approvals, resources, and workflows are in place for each translational research project to succeed.
The specialist may help prepare data and materials for conference proceedings, manuscripts, and grant proposals.
- 30%- Conduct research experiments in line with the overall research plan. Assist with IACUC and IRB protocols, development and design of experiments, and review progress and evaluate results (with supervision from the PI).
- 30%-Oversight of daily laboratory operations, including ordering/inventory, maintenance of OSEH, ULAM, IACUC and IRB compliance, lab organization, and maintenance of lab equipment.
- 20% Provide functional supervision and delegate responsibilities for laboratory members, students, and volunteers.
- 10%-Conference Abstract, Manuscript, and Grant Preparation
- 10%-Other responsibilities as needed
- Research Area Specialist Intermediate: Bachelor's degree in a field related to medical imaging, Physics, or biomedical engineering. 4-5 years of vocational or related educational experience, or equivalent combination of both.
- Research Area Specialist Associate: Bachelor's degree in a field related to medical imaging, Physics, or biomedical engineering. 1-3 years of vocational or related educational experience, or equivalent combination of both.
- Master's degree in a field related to medical imaging, physics or biomedical engineering.
- Strong experience required in:
- Managing projects with guidance from both basic research and clinical faculty
- Competence in preclinical & basic research studies
- Human subjects research
- Excellent written and verbal communication
Monday-Friday, 8 hours
Hours may be variable (including occasional evenings and weekends) depending on the needs of the current studies.
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
