Job Summary
The Program Manager position serves as the University’s primary advocate and support for students who are alumni of State of Texas foster care programs, as well as students who have experienced housing and related challenges. The role also serves as the official liaison alignment with the Texas Education Code for these student populations. This position will handle overall case management by triage referrals, coordinating interventions and support services, and tracking students’ completion of recommendations. The individual will work closely with other campus resource providers, clinicians, Student Affairs units, and community support agencies in coordinating appropriate support for students who are foster care alumni or homeless/at risk of homelessness. This position will also be responsible for coordinating a summer bridge/camp experience for students in grades 10-12. The annual salary for this position ranges from $71,000 – $80,000. The final offer will be based on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and overall fit for the role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support an on-going caseload of students who are alumni of state foster care support systems or who have experienced housing insecurity, who would benefit from a systems approach to student success, wellness and retention.
  • Manage all data, functions and information in an appropriate database related to students who are alumni of the foster care system or who are homeless or at risk of being homeless.
  • Plan, implement and facilitate an annual residential summer camp/bridge program for students in Dallas/Tarrant County and nearby areas, including staffing, programming and serving as camp director.
  • Seek grant and other external funding to support programs of the unit, and manage those grants in coordination with funding agencies (e.g., Communities Foundation of North Texas).
  • Provide support for students in application for foster care tuition waiver, homeless tuition waiver and applications for other financial support.
  • Design and implement outreach efforts targeting students, faculty, and staff, including presentation and marketing materials.
  • Assisting students in connecting with community resources and support (SNAP applications, Medicaid, City of Arlington Eviction Mitigation programs, etc.).
  • Create social support mechanisms to create a community of learners who have shared or similar journeys to connect in a safe and supportive environment.
  • Conduct early outreach to all incoming students who appear to qualify for support and assure that all students have a dedicated place to go that provides a “one stop” location to meet all their basic needs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in social work, higher education and student affairs, counseling, public health or related field.
  • Three (3) years of related experience in supporting students OR seven (7) years of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in assess services and learning outcomes.
  • Experience identifying problems, use sound judgment and reasoning to make crucial decisions autonomously.
  • Understanding and experience of the application of FERPA, medical privacy guidelines, and other applicable laws and policies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in social work, higher education and student affairs, counseling, public health.
  • Five (5) years of related experience.
  • Previous experience working with foster care alumni or homeless students.
  • Experience conducting presentations to both large and small groups.
  • Direct experience working with traditional/non-traditional aged college students.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current trends in campus advocacy.
  • Knowledge and experience with case management, with utilization of the Maxient or similar electronic case management systems.
  • Ability to take initiative and to balance multiple priorities.
