About The Position:
SUNY Plattsburgh is seeking applicants for a SUNY Promoting Recruitment, Opportunity, Diversity, Inclusion and Growth plus (PRODiG+ ) Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Department of Music and Music Technology.
PRODiG+ is designed with two primary goals: (1) increasing the number and share of excellent diverse faculty committed to advancing the ideals of diversity, equity, and inclusion; and (2) strengthening the pipeline for retention and support of those faculty. The PRODiG+ Fellowship is open to any and all prospective candidates regardless of race, color, national origin, or sex, and is consistent with all current governing federal and state nondiscrimination law. All application submissions will be assessed and evaluated in accordance with the required eligibility criteria. Preference will be given to candidates who are:
  • Current SUNY students, alumni, and/or Fellows; From a low-income background (e.g., Pell-eligible as undergraduates)
  • Were first- generation college students (students whose parents have not earned a bachelor’s degree), have overcome adversity, are AmeriCorps alumni, or are veterans

This Fellowship is for a 12-month appointment for two years. The fellow will have a unique opportunity to collaborate with other faculty members and receive enhanced support and mentorship. The fellowship is expected to transition into a tenure-track position (10-month obligation) after two years, provided the fellow achieves performance milestones during the fellowship.
Additional SUNY Plattsburgh support for the PRODiG+ Fellow includes: a reduced teaching load for two years (e.g., two courses per semester instead of three); monthly mentoring with a tenured faculty mentor during the two-year Fellowship; new faculty orientation and onboarding workshops; resources related to the academic performance review process, faculty benefits, and other monthly presentations.
Duties are expected to include teaching courses such as Music Technology, Music Theory, and courses in our core curriculum. Student advisement along with other departmental and university service contributions are also expected. The Music Department is a small but highly visible and active department who strive to create a supportive artistic environment. We are part of the School of Arts & Sciences which provides excellence in learning opportunities for all students at SUNY Plattsburgh through a core liberal arts education. We train students who can think critically, have mastered their discipline, can communicate effectively and are broadly educated. As SUNY Plattsburgh is an institution that delivers challenging and high-quality educational experiences to a diverse group of learners, the successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of the importance of ensuring a welcome and equitable environment and academic experience for all. The successful candidate may be asked to teach courses in a distance learning format.
Required Qualifications:
  • Be eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
  • Master’s/terminal degree in Music Technology, Music Theory, or Composition by the time of appointment; expected to be 09/01/2026
  • Demonstrate personal, academic, and/or work experience engaging with diversity, equity, and inclusion and/or a commitment to facilitating and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the campus community. Such experience may include, but is not limited to, an academic/scholarly track record focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion; work, volunteer/ unpaid/community service; or related experience/expertise in serving underserved or vulnerable areas and/or populations
  • Relevant teaching experience, including knowledge of Logic, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Ableton, Notation Programs
  • Experience with analog and digital mixing
  • Strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, staff, and administrators
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree in Music Technology, Music Theory, or Composition
  • Successful curriculum development experience
  • Undergraduate college teaching experience
Salary (Applicant View)
$65,000 (12-month obligation), plus excellent benefits
