| Position Description | The Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations seeks applications for a preceptor in Modern Turkish. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2026. The preceptor will be responsible for teaching five courses in the modern Turkish language per academic year, participating in curricular development, and organizing programmatic activities. The preceptor may be responsible for training and supervising teaching assistants or fellows. The position is for three years, renewable for a term of up to five years, contingent on performance, enrollments, curricular need, position availability, and divisional dean authorization. |
| Basic Qualifications | The successful applicant will have native or near-native fluency in Turkish, as well as extensive experience and demonstrated a strong record of effectiveness in teaching Turkish language at all levels. The successful applicant will have thorough experience with proficiency-based, communicative, student-centered, and up-to-date teaching methods in teaching undergraduate and graduate learners. The successful applicant will be committed to ongoing professional development and developing new course materials. A bachelor’s degree (or the equivalent) is required; a strong doctoral record or an MA in linguistics (or related field) are preferred. |
| Additional Qualifications | Proven experience working in coordination with faculty and administration, including organizing cultural programming and events. Well versed in incorporating technology into instruction. Experience in teaching courses with cultural materials (e.g., literature, film, media). |

| Salary Range | The salary range for preceptor positions will be $70,300 to $78,300. Pay offered to the selected candidate is dependent on factors such as years of experience, training or qualification, field of scholarship, and accomplishments in the field. |
