Position Summary:
The Pre-Clinical Coordinator is responsible for assisting in developing, organizing, and managing the operations of preclinical courses at UNC COM. As the first point of contact for students, the Pre-Clinical Coordinator ensures an integrated, smooth, and welcoming learning environment. The coordinator will assist the Assistant Dean of Assessment and their assigned preclinical course directors in implementing the curriculum, communicating with students and faculty, preparing attendance reports, gathering course, student, and faculty evaluations, coordinating feedback, assisting with assessment preparation, proctoring assessments, and organizing course grades.
Job Duties:
65% Course Scheduling and Delivery
· In collaboration with course directors, develop and implement procedures to support daily course operations
· Serve as the front-line contact and liaison for students, faculty, and course directors by attending learning sessions.
· Model effective communication skills and maintain course communication with students, visitors, and co-workers via email, the learning management system (LMS), and other communication platforms.
· Manage curriculum projects as assigned by course directors
· Assist affiliate faculty in the preparation and dissemination of course materials in the classroom and in the learning management system (LMS), including syllabi, assignments, and supporting documents
· Maintain a working knowledge of learning spaces and material resources and coordinates with course directors and operations to maintain supplies and room readiness.
· Select and manage appropriate room reservations and other course resource scheduling based on instructional needs.
· Support affiliate faculty by troubleshooting basic technical and AV issues and liaise with IM&T help desk and representatives for advanced technical support.
15% Assessment, Evaluation, and Grade Management
· In collaboration with course directors and the Assistant Dean of Assessment, develop procedures for preparation and administration of assessments.
· Implement procedures for timely assessment preparation, proctoring, and review to meet curricular deadlines.
· Coordinate with the Standardized Patient program for administration of Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE) and patient encounters.
· Monitor distribution and collection of student, faculty, and course evaluations
· Assist Clinical Affiliate Faculty with entering grades into the LMS, monitor student grades and assignment completion, and notify course directors of potential academic performance issues or concerns.
· Collaborate with course directors and the Assistant Dean of Assessment to prepare reports on student and course performance
10% Curriculum Planning Support
· Attend and participate in the Curriculum Committee, including providing administrative support to the Curriculum Committee Chair.
· Attendance and participation in other curricular-related meetings as needed.
5% Curriculum Mapping
· Work with course directors and the Assistant Dean of Assessment to map programmatic level educational objectives (PLOs), course learning objectives (CLOs), session learning objectives (SLOs), and assessment item tags.
· Aid the Assistant Dean of Assessment in generating reports on curriculum mapping and alignment for continuous quality improvement (CQI) and accreditation efforts.
5% Operational Support
· Attend and support events hosted or sponsored by the COM.
· Complete other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in Education, Health Sciences, Public Health, Psychology, Business Administration, Communications, English, or a related field.

A Bachelor’s degree in another field with demonstrated experience in academic administration, curriculum support, learning management systems, or health professions education.
- Experience in an administrative, educational support, or program coordination role or demonstrated ability to perform similar functions in a professional, academic, or organizational setting
- Ability to manage schedules, maintain documentation, and coordinate tasks involving multiple stakeholders
- Experience using digital tools or platforms to support instructional, administrative, or organizational activities
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2–4 years of experience providing administrative, operational, or instructional support in a higher education or health professions education setting (e.g., medical, nursing, PA, PT/OT, pharmacy, public health)
- Experience supporting course delivery, including scheduling, classroom readiness, faculty coordination, and preparation of instructional materials
- Experience using learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, D2L) to post materials, manage assignments, enter grades, and communicate with students and faculty
- Experience participating in or supporting assessment workflows, such as exam preparation, proctoring, item tracking, or coordination with simulation or standardized patient programs
- Experience working with curriculum mapping, learning objectives, or educational data for reporting and continuous quality improvement (CQI)
- Experience troubleshooting or coordinating resolution of basic classroom technology or AV issues in collaboration with IT support
- Experience preparing or contributing to accreditation materials or curriculum committee documentation
- Ability to manage complex course operations, assessment activities, and curriculum support with minimal supervision
