Description

The University of Chicago, Committee on Conceptual and Historical Studies of Science seeks applications for appointment as Postdoctoral Researcher at the rank of Instructor for a nonrenewable two-year term. The Postdoctoral Researcher will work on independent research under a faculty member’s guidance, conducting advanced, independent, or collaborative research, aiming for high-impact publications of scholarly merit. Simultaneously, the researcher will teach up to three courses per year, distributed over three quarters. Their teaching responsibilities will primarily serve the History, Philosophy, and Social Studies of Science and Medicine's (HIPSS) undergraduate core sequence in the Science, Culture, and Society in Western Civilization, as well as other assigned courses in the HIPS undergraduate major. Candidates with expertise in the History of Science and demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching preferred. The position will begin on or after September 1, 2026.

Qualifications

Candidates must have completed all requirements for the PhD degree prior to the start of the appointment.
