Position Information

The Program on Conflict and Development (ConDev) in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Texas A&M University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position. ConDev conducts frontier research on the economic causes and consequences of conflict, forced displacement, and recovery, combining rigorous theoretical and empirical methods with policy engagement in data-constrained environments.

The successful candidate will contribute to a growing research agenda spanning topics such as conflict spillovers, forced displacement and host community impacts, firm and labor market responses to instability, and the interaction between climate shocks, resource use, and institutions. The program works with a range of data sources, including administrative microdata, household and firm surveys, and geospatial datasets.

The postdoctoral researcher will collaborate closely with the program director and affiliated researchers on ongoing projects, with opportunities to contribute to the preparation of research proposals and to engage in the intellectual life of the Program on Conflict and Development, including workshops, seminars, and dissemination activities.

Required Education and Experience:

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in economics or a closely related field by the start date. The ideal candidate will have strong training in applied econometrics and demonstrated ability to work with microdata. Experience with causal inference methods (e.g., panel data methods, difference-in-differences, instrumental variables) is expected.

Preferred Experience:

Preferred qualifications include familiarity with geospatial data or spatial analysis, experience working with administrative or firm-level datasets, and an interest in research in developing country contexts or fragile and conflict-affected settings. Experience integrating multiple data sources (e.g., survey, administrative, and spatial data) is an asset. Experience working with large and/or complex datasets is highly desirable.

What You Need to Know

The appointment is for one year, renewable based on performance and funding, with an anticipated start date of June 1, 2026.

To apply, please submit a cover letter, CV, writing sample, and contact information of three references by April 15, 2026.
