Postdoctoral Associate, Computational – Yu Lab, Weill Institute for Cell and Molecular Biology
A ComputationalPostdoctoral Associate position is available in the Yu Laboratory at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY with a focus on developing deep learning algorithms.
Dr. Haiyuan Yu, Ph.D. is a Tisch University Professor of Computational Biology in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and a member of the Weill Institute for Cell and Molecular Biology. He is also the Director of the Cornell Center for Innovative Proteomics. The Yu lab performs research in the broad area of Network Systems Biology with both high-throughput experimental (proteomics and genomics) and integrative computational (network analysis and machine learning) methodologies, aiming to understand gene functions and their relationships within complex molecular networks (protein-protein interactome and gene regulatory networks in particular) and how perturbations to such systems may lead to various human diseases. The Yu Lab maintains a robust and expanding research portfolio, currently spanning nine sponsored projects, with additional proposals in progress. The lab uniquely integrates wet lab and computational expertise and is a leader in proteomics and mass spectrometry, frequently collaborating across the Weill Institute, Cornell University, and with external partners.
We are seeking a motivated computational postdoctoral associate to develop deep learning algorithms: 1) to model 3D protein complex structures and impact of mutations/PTMs on protein structure and interactions; and 2) to dissect functional elements (e.g., enhancers) throughout the genome and impact of noncoding mutations on gene expression.
Your Qualifications
Successful candidates should:
- hold a recent Ph.D. in computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, or a closely related field by the appointment start date;
- demonstrate strong expertise in computational biology or data-driven modeling, with experience in one or more of the following areas: machine learning or deep learning, structural modeling and analysis, and genome or transcriptome analysis;
- have a strong record of peer-reviewed publications or equivalent scholarly output;
- collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary and multicultural research teams.
We strongly encourage applications from computer scientists with substantial experience in deep learning and related methods, even if they do not have prior formal training in biology.
How to Apply
Please send your complete application to Dr. Haiyuan Yu at haiyuan.yu@cornell.edu .
The application should include:
- A cover letter briefly outlining your experience and accomplishments, your motivation for joining our research group, and (optionally) your future research interests. Please also include your anticipated timeline for completing your Ph.D., if applicable, and your earliest preferred start date.
- Curriculum vitae (including publications)
- Contact information for 3 references
Deadline and More Information
Application review will begin immediately and continue on a rolling basis until the position is filled. This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) with benefits. The initial appointment period will be one year with the potential for renewal.
