Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
The Fellow will oversee all aspects of the measurement team and work with participants directly. He/she will be responsible for certifying staff on protocols for assessing physical activity, anthropometrics, blood pressure, and psychosocial surveys. The Fellow will also provide analytic and methodological oversight, contribute to the planning and execution of data analyses, prepare, and submit manuscripts, write grant proposals, and develop an independent program of research related to health promotion among minority or underrepresented communities. Candidates with a research interest/focus in health equity, community-based research, motivational and behavioral-change theory, statistics, and/or implementation science are encouraged to apply.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
  • Requires a Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in area of research specialty.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Psychology, Behavioral Science, Nursing, Social Work, Public Health, Exercise Science, or related field.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong leadership skills and potential to mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Experience with management and analysis of complex datasets, including experience with SAS, SPSS, or R.
  • A strong track record of publications in scientific journals.
  • Experience in health promotion, community-based prevention/intervention, and/or health disparities research.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to communicate clearly, orally, and in writing, with all constituents of the College of Nursing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills sufficient to inspire, lead, and work effectively with diverse groups.

Managing data collection and analysis using various research methods (e.g., accelerometry, surveys, and observational tools). The postdoc will oversee that all data is accurately obtained from families, downloaded, backed up, and organized data files for processing and data analysis. Given that we will work with over 600 participants, this will require daily oversight.

Overseeing intervention implementation, including process evaluation data, which involves tracking attendance, content delivery, and quality of delivery based on a set of apriori criteria. This information will be shared weekly with the Principal Investigators to track the intervention’s implementation.

Preparing scholarly manuscripts and conference presentations. The postdoc will assist with data analysis, manuscript writing, and developing conference presentations related to the grant. This will involve developing slide presentations and working closely with the Principal Investigators to ensure that data presentations are clearly analyzed and summarized.

Training and supervision of part-time research staff and graduate/undergraduate students. The postdoc will provide oversight that protocols are followed for the measurement team related to assessments of height, weight, waist circumference, blood pressure, physical activity (actigraph devices worn on the wrist), and surveys. The postdoc will be responsible for 2 part-time measurement staff and will assist with projects that undergraduate students develop through the Magellan Scholarship Program and the Honors College and Capstone Programs.

Assisting with grant applications. The postdoc will assist with writing and submitting grant applications aligned with the grant’s overall aims. We anticipate working on at least 3 manuscripts per year, in which the postdoc will help oversee as a lead or co-author.
