About the Job:
Professor Alireza Khani’s Transit Lab (http://umntransit.weebly.com) has a post-doctoral associate position to take the lead on a variety of research projects, as well as to contribute to teaching transportation engineering courses in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering. This person will initiate and lead research in collaboration with national organizations and state, and local agencies to study contemporary transportation topics such as mobility-on-demand (MoD) and mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS), electric vehicles, artificial intelligence in travel behavior modeling and multimodal transportation network analysis. The person will also interact with, mentor, and assist graduate and undergraduate students in the research group, and participate in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. 60-80% Research
- Conduct research related to externally funded projects, including collecting and analyzing data, developing, training, testing, and validating models, and documenting and presenting research outcomes
- Individually and collaboratively write reports for sponsors and papers to submit to refereed journals
- Conduct project management, maintain effective communication with sponsors and collaborators
- Initiate research ideas and develop research proposals for national and local sponsors
- Assist graduate and undergraduate students with their research
10-20% Teaching and Mentoring
- Co-teach or guest lecture in undergraduate and graduate courses related to transportation engineering as needed
- Develop teaching materials for existing or new courses in transportation engineering
- Mentor graduate or undergraduate students in the lab
- Hold office hours as needed
10-20% Lab Citizen
- Attend lab meetings with the research group and one-on-one meetings with Professor Khani, as required
- Attend relevant lectures, seminars, and training sessions
- Assist other lab/community members, as needed
- Manage lab equipment, including servers, databases, and software tools
- Maintain the highest safety standards that adhere to University policy
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong modeling and analytical skills in transportation engineering
- Strong knowledge of multimodal transportation networks, new mobility systems, travel behavior, and AI in transportation
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages, preferably Python
- Proficiency in database systems, preferably MS SQL or PostgreSQL
- Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality publications
- Experience in teaching engineering coursework related to transportation engineering
- A desire to help lead an integrative and motivated group of young scientists
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal

Pay and Benefits
Fixed Pay Rate: The annual rate of this position is $61,008.00
