Nurse Practitioner, Clinical ProgramsThe Primary Care Health Service at Barnard College seeks a dedicated and experienced full-time Nurse Practitioner who will provide high-quality, evidence-based primary care to enrolled students in a collegiate health setting. This role is primarily clinical, focused on delivering comprehensive ambulatory medical care to adolescent and young adult patients within a historically women’s college environment.
In addition to clinical responsibilities, the Nurse Practitioner will contribute to staff education and clinical training initiatives within the Primary Care Health Service, supporting professional development and dissemination of evidence-based practices among clinical staff.
The position integrates clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, preventive services, reproductive health care, and coordination of specialty referrals, while also supporting health promotion, campus engagement, and quality improvement initiatives. The Nurse Practitioner participates in the clinician after-hours on-call rotation and collaborates with physicians, nurses, behavioral health clinicians, and allied health professionals to ensure coordinated, student-centered care.
This is a full-time, in-person role. The position is approximately 90% direct clinical care and 10% staff education and clinical program support.

Key Responsibilities:
Direct Clinical Care
Provide comprehensive primary care services to Barnard students in an ambulatory college health setting, including evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and referral for acute and chronic conditions.
Conduct comprehensive physical examinations and complete required medical clearances and documentation.
Deliver preventive care and screenings in accordance with evidence-based guidelines and best practices in adolescent and young adult medicine.
Provide comprehensive, student-centered sexual and reproductive health services across the continuum of prevention, counseling, evaluation, and management.
Perform gynecologic examinations and procedures consistent with the scope of practice and clinical training.
Order, interpret, and follow up on laboratory and diagnostic studies.
Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions within the New York State scope of practice, including contraceptive methods and preventive pharmacologic therapies.
Initiate emergency stabilization procedures as indicated and appropriately triage urgent medical presentations.
Participate in the clinician after-hours on-call rotation schedule, including holiday coverage as assigned.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary clinical team members to ensure continuity and coordination of care.
Document all clinical encounters in the electronic medical record (EMR), including patient portal communications, laboratory review, and follow-up documentation in accordance with regulatory and institutional standards.
Support medication management processes, including oversight of in-office medications and contraceptive supplies.
Patient Education, Health Promotion & Campus Engagement
Provide individualized preventive counseling, anticipatory guidance, and health education to support student well-being.
Engage students in shared decision-making and collaborative care planning.
Communicate test results, follow-up recommendations, and referrals through appropriate clinical channels.
Participate in campus health promotion and wellness initiatives in collaboration with Health and Wellness partners.
Deliver trauma-informed, culturally responsive care reflective of best practices in adolescent and young adult medicine.
Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold standards of privacy, dignity, and respect in all clinical interactions.
Student Health Compliance & Immunization Oversight
Review incoming student health documentation for completeness and clinical appropriateness.
Evaluate immunization records to ensure compliance with New York State public health mandates and institutional requirements.
Provide clinical follow-up and immunization planning for students requiring additional documentation or vaccines.
Collaborate with nursing leadership and administrative partners to support regulatory reporting and student health clearance processes.
Clinical Education & Staff Development (Limited Administrative Function)
Support clinical education initiatives within the Primary Care Health Service through participation in staff training and professional development activities.
Assist in disseminating updated clinical protocols, evidence-based practices, and emerging health guidance relevant to student health care.
Provide mentorship and clinical guidance to nursing staff, nurse practitioners, and clinical trainees when applicable.
Participate in case discussions, quality improvement reviews, and clinical learning opportunities that enhance team-based care delivery.
Clinical Quality, Compliance & Professional Standards
Maintain active New York State licensure, nurse practitioner certification, DEA registration, and NPI.
Practice in accordance with the New York State Nurse Practice Act and applicable collaborative practice regulations.
Maintain compliance with federal, state, and accreditation standards, including requirements associated with AAAHC accreditation.
Participate in Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives, peer review, and case conferences.
Support adherence to OSHA, infection prevention, and public health standards.
Engage in continuing education and professional development.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President of Health & Wellness.
Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
Current New York State RN license or eligibility.
Current New York State Nurse Practitioner certification.
Master of Science in Nursing or related graduate degree.
Current DEA registration and NPI number.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Experience providing primary care services to adolescents and young adults.
Experience with electronic medical record systems.
Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) certification.
1 or more years of clinical experience in an ambulatory, primary care, urgent care, or college health setting.
Experience in college or student health settings.
Training or experience in adolescent and young adult medicine.
Clinical expertise in women’s health and reproductive procedures, including cervical cancer screening, IUD placement, and Nexplanon insertion.
Experience managing eating disorders and integrating behavioral health into primary care practice.
Training in trauma-informed care and inclusive healthcare delivery.
Experience supporting clinical education, staff mentorship, or training initiatives.
Strong commitment to health promotion, preventive care, and evidence-based practice.
Working Conditions:
Fully in-person role, based on the Barnard College campus.
Participation in an after-hours on-call schedule is required.
Occasional evening or weekend work may be necessary for outreach or educational activities.
Salary Range: $120,000 - $130,000 annually
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
