Life Science Research Professional 1 - Sheltzer Lab - Onsite
One Year Fixed Term (12-months)
The Sheltzer Lab at Stanford University is seeking a Life Science Research Professional 1 for a cutting-edge project characterizing anti-cancer drug activity. Cancer cells require the expression of certain genes, called "addictions" or "genetic dependencies", that encode proteins necessary for tumor growth. Targeting the proteins encoded by these genes can trigger cell death and durable tumor regression. The Sheltzer Lab is applying CRISPR to study genetic dependencies in cancer in order to identify new therapeutic vulnerabilities and targets for drug development. Additionally, we are developing genomic approaches to investigate the on-target and off-target effects of different cancer drugs, with profound implications for their clinical use. The researcher will learn and apply multiple laboratory methods, including CRISPR-based gene targeting, cell culture, mouse husbandry, gel electrophoresis, western blotting, and flow cytometry, to investigate the biology of cancer. The successful candidate will have strong data analysis skills and will be comfortable performing as well as interpreting the results of laboratory experiments.
