Position Overview

The School of Social Work at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a part-time Lecturer focused on emotional intelligence, health, and well-being. This position will contribute to the School’s educational mission and student support initiatives by integrating teaching, program development, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Working closely with the Assistant Dean for Health Affairs and Well-Being, the individual in this role will support initiatives that advance emotional health, resilience, and wellness among students and the broader university community. The position will also foster collaborations across the University of Texas at Austin, including partnerships with Dell Medical School and other campus units engaged in health promotion, behavioral health, and student well-being.

This appointment is a half-time position (20 hours per week) and includes teaching responsibilities as well as leadership and coordination of well-being initiatives within the School of Social Work.

Primary Responsibilities

Teaching

  • Teach one to two courses per academic year related to emotional intelligence, health and wellness, resilience, or related topics.
  • Develop and deliver engaging course content that integrates theory, practice, and applied learning in areas such as emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, recovery-oriented approaches, stress management, and well-being.
  • Mentor and support students in developing skills related to self-awareness, professional resilience, and healthy professional practice.

Program Development and Coordination

  • Collaborate with the Assistant Dean for Health Affairs and Well-Being to design and implement initiatives that promote emotional health and well-being among students, faculty, and staff.
  • Assist in developing workshops, trainings, and educational programming related to emotional intelligence, resilience, recovery, and holistic wellness.
  • Contribute to the integration of well-being and resilience concepts into the School’s educational environment and professional development programming.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

  • Support collaborative initiatives between the School of Social Work and other units at the University of Texas at Austin, including Dell Medical School.
  • Help cultivate partnerships that advance interdisciplinary approaches to behavioral health, student well-being, and recovery-informed practice.
  • Participate in relevant campus initiatives focused on health promotion, prevention, and wellness.

Community and Professional Engagement

  • Contribute to outreach and engagement activities that strengthen connections between the School of Social Work, community organizations, and health and wellness initiatives.
  • Participate in meetings, planning groups, and initiatives that support the School’s mission and the advancement of well-being across the university.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in  health education, social work, counseling, psychology, public health, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in emotional intelligence, health and wellness, behavioral health, addiction or recovery, trauma-informed practice, or related areas.
  • Experience teaching or facilitating educational programs in higher education, professional training, or community settings.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, with the ability to work across disciplines and institutional units.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional licensure or certification relevant to behavioral health, counseling, or addiction services.
  • Experience developing or coordinating programs focused on emotional health, resilience, or recovery.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams in academic or healthcare settings.
  • Experience collaborating with health systems, medical schools, or wellness initiatives in higher education.
