Academic/Faculty
Internal Number: 183090
Tisch's ITP/IMA (Interactive Telecommunications and Interactive Media Arts) department is seeking applications for individuals to join its faculty beginning in Fall 2026, at the senior level, Associate or Full Professor (pending successful tenure review). ITP/IMA encompasses three individual programs: ITP, a two-year graduate program, IMA, a four year undergraduate program, and IMA Low Residency, a one year low residency graduate program in partnership with NYU Shanghai.
ITP/IMA is located in the Tisch School of the Arts and its mission is to explore the imaginative uses of emerging technologies — to make people's lives safer, more just, more beautiful, more meaningful and more fun. At ITP/IMA we believe that working with people of different disciplines, backgrounds and experiences is key to generating new ideas. Our department is pluralistic in its methodologies, from art, science, engineering, design and the humanities, to methodologies that have yet to be defined. We nurture skepticism of them all in the hopes of developing new ways of thinking. We are not looking particularly from any one of those disciplines but rather for someone who can help us craft an environment where students can benefit from all of them.
Professional/Artistic Work/Research
Traditional measures of individual achievements in artistic and professional work such as exhibits at prestigious institutions and publications with significant impact in popular or professional spheres are valued. However, interactive media is not just about those who use tools, but also about those who make them. Therefore, the production of technology, tools and environments that enable the achievement of others are also very highly valued. Professional / Research impact may be measured by the reflection of work ultimately produced by others who use such tools, examples, frameworks, and tutorials. Additionally, work creating and guiding open source communities of creative practice is also highly valued. In all cases, professional work that crosses disciplines as well as work that helps disadvantaged or underrepresented people is particularly valued.
Teaching and Mentorship
Central to this role is a deep and sustained commitment to teaching and mentoring rising artists and practitioners. The successful candidate will be an exceptional educator who inspires students through intellectual generosity, rigorous critique, and a belief in the transformative power of interactive media and technology. They will guide students in the development of artistic voice, technical mastery, critical thinking, and collaborative practice.
The faculty member will play a significant role in mentoring students and early-career artists as well as fostering an inclusive, challenging, and supportive learning environment that reflects NYU Tisch’s global mission and values.
Leadership and Service
The greatest project out of ITP/IMA is ITP/IMA. The creative application of new technology is ever changing and we seek an individual with experience in crafting environments, institutions, programs, systems, and culture that can help to continue to evolve ITP/IMA in the future.
All faculty are expected to further the experiment of ITP/IMA. Faculty members should always be on the lookout for appropriate students, better facilities, activities, events and customs for conducting our mission and building the culture of the department.
Service may include work with admissions, advisement, community development, classrooms, shops, labs, enrichment topics, showcases, guest visitors and professional opportunities. Faculty are expected to attend faculty and committee meetings to discuss these ideas and to do the legwork of executing them in coordination with the staff.
Salary Range
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for an Associate Professor position is $120,000 - $150,000. This pay range represents base pay only (for 9 months paid over 12 months) and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
ITP/IMA seeks a candidate with significant leadership experience in similar settings who is interested in continuing to play an active leadership role in our community.
All qualified internal candidates are strongly encouraged to apply for this position.
Application Instructions
Candidates should provide:
Cover Letter that specifies areas of expertise particularly relevant to the position;
Curriculum Vitae;
Contact information for three letters of reference accompanied by a bio or CV from each Referrer; and
Work samples that best represent areas of expertise outlined in the Cover Letter. Samples may include recordings, videos, published materials, etc.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis with a final deadline of April 8th, 2026. Please apply early for full consideration.
