Job Summary/Basic Function

The Graduate Assistant will provide clerical and administrative support for the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP). The position is 20 hours per week, split between the IRB and OSP, with the bulk of effort usually in support of IRB.The IRB is a campus committee empowered by federal regulations to oversee research activities involving human subjects. The IRB is responsible for the review and monitoring of research involving human subjects in order to assure the protection of the rights and welfare of the subjects participating in research. OSP is a university department that assists faculty, staff, and students, in pursuing external funds for research, service, and programs.

Job Duties


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Effectively using the web-based program, IRBNet, a research submission and review repository, which serves as the official portal for research review at ISU.
  • Pre-reviewing incoming IRB research protocols, checking for completeness and accuracy of portal components and submission documents.
  • Communicating with faculty, staff, and student researchers regarding their research protocols.
  • Fielding inquiries for the IRB regarding protocols updates, technical assistance questions, and IRBNet submission process and questions, routing inquiries as needed to the IRB Chair, IRB Vice Chair, and IRB Administrator.
  • Attending IRB meetings as needed, preparing agendas, taking minutes and documenting quorums, etc.
  • Scheduling technical assistance meetings for PIs, faculty sponsors, students, and IRB leadership, including both face-to-face and online meetings.
  • Creating, updating, amending, and editing IRB forms and paperwork.
  • Supporting OSP in providing clerical and administrative support, including, but not limited to, answering phones, greeting guests, editing, proofreading, office support, website support, form development, drafting letters, scheduling meetings, representing the office as needed, and other duties as assigned.
