Position Overview

**Internal to current KU faculty only**

The Department of Curriculum & Teaching at the University of Kansas (KU) invites applicants for the Director of Student Teaching and Professional Development Schools. This position is open only to current KU faculty in the School of Education and Human Sciences. This is a 9-month, University-Level Administrator Position at 40% FTE with courseload release and an additional 28 days of Summary Salary.  The position is a limited-term appointment with an initial one-year term and the possibility of renewal.


Job Description

Director Responsibilities (40%):

  • Develop partnerships with PK-12 schools
  • Lead the PDS Executive Council
  • Support student teachers in their development and success
  • Collaborate with the Teacher Education Team on the Teacher Education programs and student teaching
  • Collaborate with the University Supervisors and lead University Supervisor training
  • Partner with PK-12 Clinical Supervisors, and PK-12 school partners to ensure quality, consistency, and support in our programs
  • Collaborate with the Placement Coordinator to develop quality student teaching placements
  • Serve as a member of the Teacher Education Committee (TEC) and assist in the governance of our Student Teaching and PDS program
  • Produce an Annual Report on PDS & Student Teaching, which summarizes program activities, accomplishments, and areas for improvement
  • Conduct an evaluation of each PDS partner school site annually, assessing readiness and capacity to host student teachers
  • Other responsibilities as mutually agreed upon
Faculty Responsibilities (60%):
  • Current faculty responsibilities will continue with a courseload release for serving in this Director role. 

The 40% administrative appointment as Director of Student Teaching and Director of PDS will be evaluated each year after January 1st as part of the annual review process. Successful completion of all the above expectations will form basis for Annual Evaluation.


Required Qualifications

  • Current appointment in the School of Education and Human Sciences
  •  3 years of experience teaching in PK-12 schools
