NYU Tandon School of Engineering invites applications for a full-time, non-tenured, renewable faculty position in General Engineering, at the level of Industry Assistant Professor, with a start date of August 17, 2026. This appointment will be for three academic years.
The instructor’s primary responsibility will be teaching sections of EG-UY 1004 Introduction to Engineering and Design. A cornerstone design course, EG-UY 1004 introduces students to the engineering design process through the completion of an open-ended semester-long design project. This course is a 4-credit course that consists of weekly lectures, labs, and recitation components and is team-taught by a group of faculty and undergraduate peer mentors. The instructor’s responsibilities are fulfilled by:
■ Mentoring teams of 3-4 students through completion of their semester-long design project.
■ Supporting lab exercises that introduce students to engineering tools and skills, such as computer aided design, circuitry, coding, and manufacturing techniques.
■ Evaluating students on their technical communication skills
■ Delivering short lectures introducing students to various engineering disciplines and skills.
A typical teaching load is 5 sections per semester.
The Industry Assistant Professor will also assist with the operations of the course. This includes:
- Collaborating with other faculty members and undergraduate peer mentors on curriculum development, including designing course material and developing assessment tools for the course
- Assisting with training peer mentors who support course delivery and grading
We invite applicants with expertise in engineering, engineering education, or related fields. Applicants should ideally have:
- A Ph.D. in engineering, engineering education, computer science, or related field
- A demonstrated interest in STEM education and mentorship of undergraduate students
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills
- Experience working with engineering software and tools (for example, CAD software, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, 3D printers, laser cutters, and hand tools)

In compliance with NYC?s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary (9-month) range for this position is $85,000 - $135,000 for the Industry Assistant Professor rank.
