NIST’s Material Measurement Laboratory (MML) and Communications Technology Laboratory (CTL) are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to develop high-pressure NMR spectroscopy for the measurement of intermolecular interactions of ions in solution. Measurements of ion-pairing equilibria or ion-complexation equilibria (in crown ethers or organometallic cages, for example) are of interest. Strategies to improve the measurements of temperature and pressure in the NMR sample are also of interest. A short-term goal of this project is to validate the performance of electric-acoustic spectroscopy, which is a new method for the measurement of intermolecular interactions that is being developed at NIST (follow the link above for details). Longer-term goals include the development highly efficient separations and catalytic reactions.The Postdoctoral Fellow will work in Boulder, CO, with an interdisciplinary team of experimentalists and theorists.
