Genetic Laboratory Technologist I
Human Genetics Program
Location:  New Orleans, LA
Summary
Under general supervision, performs high complexity analysis and procedures specific to the laboratory (biochemical, molecular, cytogenetic); operates and maintains laboratory equipment needed to perform daily duties; increase productivity and maintain proficiency in the wet lab and analysis sections; Continue to gain knowledge appropriate to laboratory (biochemical, molecular, cytogenetic); adhere to laboratory policies for safety, conduct, and performance; participate in continuing education.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Excellent laboratory record keeping and maintenance skills
• General knowledge of Microsoft Office software
• Knowledge of general laboratory and bloodborne pathogens safety practices
• Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Required Education and/or Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Biological sciences or a related field
• Minimum one (1) year laboratory experience or science related coursework
• ASCP certification or other equivalent board certification or eligible
• LA State Licensed or eligible

This position is classified as "non-exempt, hourly" and is assigned to pay grade 24PREM.
