Job Summary

 The Gallery and Community Outreach, Education Coordinator oversees art exhibitions, ancillary educational programs, and community outreach events associated with the Department of Art and Art History. The position also manages the Department's permanent collection and assists with gallery, studio, and classroom media needs. 

 

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

  • Oversee all aspects of gallery exhibitions (including, but not limited to soliciting exhibition proposals, organizing exhibitions, creating and distributing department and gallery-related press releases, oversee gallery receptions and special events)
  • Assist with organizing department-sponsored special events related to student or community engagement.
  • Manage the department's permanent collection of artworks. 
  • Assist with gallery, studio, and classroom media needs. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education/Experience

  • BFA or BA in studio art or art history 
  • Strong demonstrated record of working in a professional art museum or gallery environment. 
  • May consider a combination of education and experience

  • Art history, contemporary art practices, and exhibition planning. 
  • Museum and gallery operations.
  • Educational programming, outreach, and professional development for educators. 
  • Strong organizational, project management, and planning skills.

  • Proficiency in media software for marketing materials and educational technology tools.
  • Ability to handle and install artwork safely. 
  • Coordinate and manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with artists, faculty, community members, teachers, parents, and administrators.
  • Plan, execute, and assess educational programs, exhibitions, and events. 
  • Attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Creativity and innovation in program and curriculum development. 
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical thinking abilities. 
  • Commitment to promoting art education, community engagement, and improving educational outcomes.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
