Position Summary
The Financial Assistance Advisor II – Special Programs has the primary responsibility for administering the university’s work-study program, tuition waivers, veteran’s benefit coordination with financial assistance, and awarding study abroad. The Financial Assistance Advisor II – Special Programs reports to the Assistant Director of Financial Assistance.
The Financial Assistance Advisor II represents the OFA (Office of Financial Assistance) in providing excellent customer service in advising students on available resources. OFA advisors work as student advocates and understand the critical role financial assistance plays in the success and engagement of our students. Position is accountable for following all Federal, State and Institutional regulations.

Job Duty Name Administration of Work-study Program
Description of Job Duties
  • Manages day-to-day operation of Federal Work-Study Program.
  • Monitors overall work-study spending and communicates with Assistant Director and Director regarding spending levels and any adjustments needed.
  • Serves as a point of contact for students, supervisors, and campus departments regarding FWS policies, eligibility, and hiring processes.
  • Independently manages FWS awarding, adjustments, and reconciliation processes.
  • Collaborates with payroll, HR, and finance offices to resolve complex issues.
Job Duty Name Tuition & Graduate Assistant Waivers
Description of Job Duties
  • Manages the administration of tuition waivers after approval by Human Resources.
  • Contacts students/parents to obtain any missing documentation required for the waivers.
  • Manages the graduate assistant tuition benefit process.
Job Duty Name Veterans'/Military Benefit Coordination
Description of Job Duties
  • Updates Financial Assistance records to match VA certifications; adjusts awards as necessary to remain compliant with VA invoicing rules.
  • Applies the Yellow Ribbon funds as directed by the UIW Military and Veterans Center.
  • Updates coding to recognize students receiving military discounts or tuition assistance benefits and coordinates any required changes to financial aid offers.
Job Duty Name Study Abroad Liaison
Description of Job Duties
  • Collaborates with the Study Abroad Office to manage study abroad scholarship funds.
  • Counsels interested students on cost and aid options for study abroad programs.

Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree.
Required Work Experience
One (1) year of professional financial aid experience in a higher education setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with BANNER software.
  • Experience managing large aid programs, particularly work-study or scholarships.

Work Hours
Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm with some extended hours and weekends as needed, especially in the planning and execution of events, to meet departmental goals.
