The University of Pittsburgh Experimental Department of Pathology is seeking a Candidate for the position of Paid Visiting Scholar.
Brief Statement of Responsibilities:
This opportunity will provide foundational training for the preclinical research of chronic liver disease pathophysiology, in vitro and in vivo models of disease, and relevant laboratory techniques. Additionally, the applicant will work closely with the PI and fellow laboratory members to gain experience in experimental design, the communication of research findings, and the critical evaluation of scientific literature. To ensure the successful advancement of the Candidate, the PI will provide feedback and performance evaluations to assist with their progress. The Candidate will perform services within the Department of Pathology under the direction of Dr. Alejandro Soto-Gutierrez, MD, PhD, studying the relationship between transcriptional dysregulation and the pathophysiological features of end-stage liver disease (ESLD). Through this process, the Candidate will gain experience in in vitro (iPSC-derived and primary human hepatic cell models) and in vivo (rat models) techniques for the study of ESLD, accompanied by the relevant histological, biochemical, and immunological methods for analysis. The applicant will participate in data analysis, research seminars, and scientific discussions to gain a well-rounded understanding of the scientific process and the current state of research in the field.
Job Description:
To design and execute animal and cell culture studies, maintain rat colonies, perform histological, biochemical, and immunological analyses on human and animal tissues, analyze and interpret data, and write manuscripts. Engage in scientific discussions about current literature linking transcription factors to liver disease. -Practice communicating complex findings in both written and oral formats appropriate for scientific audiences. -Reflect on ethical considerations in the use of animal and human-derived models for ESLD research, as well as other assignments related to scientific development (e.g., writing manuscripts, reviews, and supervising/teaching other fellows)
Minimum Degree Required: M.D
Academic Field of Degree: Molecular Biology/Hepatology/End-Stage Organ Disease
Work Experience requirement: 1 Year
Salary will be commensurate with experience. Visiting Scholars are considered faculty, Part-time regular at 90% effort.
