| Scope of Job | Engineering Technician: To provide high level technical skills to ensure the safe operation of all Machine Shop and Engineering (Research and Educational) Lab equipment. Responsible for the safe distribution, maintenance of supplies and equipment in departmental laboratories or related areas and provide user guidance and support of usage. Senior Engineering Technician: Oversees and ensures the safe operation of all research and educational lab equipment, the distribution of supplies and maintenance of specialized equipment in departmental laboratories or related areas and techniques of normally used equipment and materials. |
| Description of Duties | Engineering Technician: • Monitors the organization and cleanliness of the laboratory or assigned areas. • Instructs and supervises students and faculty in the safe operation of all applicable tools and research/educational equipment and recommends updates. • Ensures all established safety standards, regulations and procedures are followed in accordance with state, university and department regulations. • Responsible for supervising the daily operations of the assigned area, as well as opening and closing the site assigned as per schedule established. • Maintains and repairs all necessary tools and High-Tech equipment utilized in research and educational laboratory or assigned areas. • Prepares materials, equipment and instrumentation for use in research and educational laboratories or areas and recommends updates as needed. • Makes recommendations regarding facilities planning and equipment selection, installation and removal of research and educational equipment. • Ensures that the college inventory of research and educational laboratory materials and instruments are properly maintained, accounted for and requests purchases when needed. • Performs other duties as assigned. | Working Conditions | Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office/Lab Environment; some travel and weekend work is required. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. |
