Minimum Requirements:

Early Childhood Teacher Assistant II: High School Diploma required. Child Development Accreditation (CDA) or 12 equivalent college credit hours in Early Childhood, Elementary Education or Early Childhood Special Education. Additional experience may not be used on a one-to-one basis to offset the educational requirements. Grade 2 (Hourly)

Position Description:

Position will be filled at Early Childhood Teacher Assistant I or Early Childhood Teacher Assistant II level based on candidate's qualifications.

Teacher Assistant I

The Early Childhood Teacher Assistant I (which may be referred to as Teacher Aid) is to assist the instructional team in all areas of the children's growth including physical, social/emotional, cognitive, literacy and math. Demonstrate knowledge of child development as well as health, safety, and nutrition standards. Open to exploring and implementing curriculum strategies as well as instructional designs that incorporate brain research and adaptations for special needs thereby always demonstrating a learning attitude. This position requires a talent for working with young children, an appreciation for all family configurations and cultures, a respect for the family as the child's first teacher, and a willingness to work as a partner with the family.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible to adhere to Kentucky Childcare Regulation requirements as set forth by the Cabinet for Families and Children at all times and the requirements of the USDA Food Program. The Teacher Aide is responsible to follow and support ELC policies, procedures, and initiatives.
• Responsible to apply guidelines established by the National Association for the Education of Young children and to support classroom self-assessment and improvement procedures based on the Infant/Toddler or Early Childhood Environment Rating Scales.
• Responsible to support the implementation of a curriculum that meets the requirements of KY Regulations and is consistent with the philosophy of the program, including Reggio Emilia inspired activities, long-term projects, and research-based learning opportunities that are appropriate for the ages and abilities of the children.
• Responsible to demonstrate knowledge of child development and positive discipline practices when handling classroom behavior and interacting with children.
• Responsible to maintain and sanitize the classroom and materials in accordance with licensing requirements and more frequently as needed.
• Responsible to prepare servings and engage with the children during breakfast, lunch, and snacks.
• Responsible to help set up classroom environment for emergent learning.
• Responsible to report to the Director any concerns about the suspicion of child abuse/neglect and all other pertinent issues related to local and state licensing laws.
• Responsible to report any injuries, concerns about programs or curriculum, specific classroom needs to the Lead Facilitator. If the injury requires medical attention, the Teacher Aide will report to the Director immediately.
• Responsible to conduct daily interactions in a professional and positive manner, to work cooperatively and courteously with co-workers, and to contribute in a positive manner to build team collaboration.
• Responsible to report reliably to work and return from breaks as scheduled.
• Responsible and shall collaborate with University of Louisville departments pertaining to observation and research of early childhood and assure that all Local, State, and Confidentially laws under HIPAA are being implemented.
• Responsible to complete a minimum of 15 hours of state-approved training each year (hire date to hire date), and to maintain current TB test documentation.

The Teacher Assistant II will assist the Lead Teacher in the planning and implementation of a curriculum consistent with the philosophy of the Early Learning Campus including Reggio Emilia inspired activities. Responsibilities also include assisting with age and ability-appropriate long-term projects and research-based activities.

The Assistant Teacher will apply guidelines established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and participate in classroom self-assessment and improvement procedures using the Infant/Toddler or Early Childhood Rating Scales.

This position is responsible to adhere to KY Childcare Regulation requirements as set forth by the Cabinet for Families and Children at all times, and to the requirements of the USDA Food Program. The Assistant will also follow and support ELC policies and procedures and perform Lead duties in the absence of the Lead Teacher.

Kentucky State Child licensing standards require all new ELC staff to complete 6 hours of childcare orientation within the first 90 days of employment, complete a total of 15 hours of state-approved training each year before hire date anniversary, and maintain current TB test.

Duties and Responsibilities of this position include:

• Teach the children in the classroom using daily interactions and routines.
• Communicate with families in a supportive, professional, and respectful manner.
• Apply class guidelines established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
• The Assistant Facilitator is responsible to perform lead duties in the absence of the Lead Facilitator.
