Job Description

The Director of Orientation and Transition Programs will serve students at the bookends of their student life cycle to help them transition into college as new students and out of college as successful graduates. This includes creating interactive programming for target audiences and directing and managing orientation and transition programming functions performed within the office.

  • Directs, oversees, and evaluates the effectiveness of departmental programs, including but not limited to registration days, online orientation, MAMBO, university success courses, etc.

  • Serves and primary lead for fall extended orientation (MAMBO) to meet the needs of prospective and incoming students with support from the Orientation and Transition Programs (OTP) staff.

  • Co-leads the coordination of first year transition programs with the Office of Student Involvement & Leadership, including but not limited to: Privateer Camp, Privateer Plunge and Spring Splash, Start Fresh Fest, and additional programs in coordination with other campus partners. 

  • Facilitates the hiring, training, and assessment of peer mentors, orientation leaders, and other student staff.

  • Develops and coordinates the publication of informational and promotional materials for the area of responsibility, including manuals, handbooks, folders, brochures, handouts, pamphlets and programs.

  • Uses evidence-based strategies to assist the University, Division, and Department in developing efforts in creating and sustaining a culture that embraces and promotes varied groups of students

  • Develops and manages department budget and private fundraising.

  • Supervises the OTP professional, paraprofessional, and student staff.

  • Delegates responsibilities to support staff, as needed. 

  • Continually assesses efforts to ensure appropriate use of university resources. 

  • Collects and uses data to make decisions that improve both individual and office performance. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • ​Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration or related field -OR- Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years of working experience in higher education. 

  • Experience working directly with people from different backgrounds.

  • Excellent oral, written communication, and strong interpersonal skills; willing to work non-traditional hours during orientation season.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three to five years of experience working in orientation programs.

  • Technical experience working with Excel, Qualtrics, EAB Navigate, Canvas, Workday, and/or TargetX software.
