The School of Health Professions offers degree programs at both UT Tyler and UT Tyler Health Science Center. This position provides leadership for both institutions with a main office at the Health Science Center.

Job Summary
The Dean of the School of Health Professions (SHP) will be a transformative, innovative leader who can translate a bold institutional vision into measurable impact. The successful candidate will lead the complex and highly successful SHP with baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral programs in kinesiology, psychology & counseling, occupational therapy, population health leadership & analytics, and speech language pathology to its next phase of development. A Doctor of Physical Therapy is in planning stages.
In addition to academic degree programs, the SHP is highly clinically integrated into clinical operations with numerous faculty practicing in psychology, audiology, speech language pathology and occupational therapy. The Dean will work with other Deans, colleagues across the campus, health system partners and numerous external stakeholders to build meaningful interprofessional opportunities.
The Dean reports to the Provost and is expected to ensure the long-term success and quality of the school's programs. Candidates from a variety of high-impact backgrounds - academic, clinical practice, administration - are encouraged to apply, provided they bring demonstrated success in driving large-scale educational transformation, organizational growth, and cross-sector collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for the School of Health Professions, ensuring alignment with the university’s mission and goals.
- Develop and manage the school’s budget, resources, and facilities effectively and responsibly.
- Facilitate continuous, effective, and seamless interaction, engagement, and coordination between the different units in the School of Health Professions.
- Cultivate strong relationships with healthcare organizations, community partners, and alumni to support student learning, clinical placements, and fundraising initiatives.
- Be responsible for enhancing and invigorating the academic programs; inspiring faculty, staff, and students; and creating synergy among the disciplines, within and across the academic colleges.
- Promote excellence in teaching, learning, research, and clinical practice.
- Ensure compliance with all accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.
- Develop an environment that promotes and values communication, collaboration, and coordination, and that fosters collegiality.
- Be an intellectual leader who will foster and promote the highest standards of academic excellence, state-of-the-art research/scholarship, and active community engagement.
- Actively lead the School in strengthening its economic portfolio by expanding external research funding; developing and securing financial support through local and national foundations; and increasing gifts and endowments through active engagement in philanthropy.
- Recruit, develop, and retain high-quality faculty and staff.
- Ensure active engagement of faculty, staff, and students with the external community.
- Lead efforts to expand enrollment, enhance student success, and strengthen graduate and undergraduate offerings.
- Represent the University in the community on matters pertaining to the School.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. or a terminal degree in a related field.
- Nationally recognized record of scholarly and/or creative achievement.
- Evidence of excellence in administration at the level of the department chair or higher, including faculty development, academic assessment, and management of financial resources.
- Demonstrated ability to build trust through collaborative decision-making with internal and external constituencies, embracing shared governance, commitment to academic freedom, and impactful integration with industry.
- Fundraising skills and experience collaborating with Advancement staff to acquire support from public and private sources.
- The ability to lead within a higher education environment including supporting faculty, staff, and students in achieving their goals.

- Strong record of academic and scholarly accomplishments, progressive leadership experience, and qualification for tenure at the rank of full professor.
- Strong background and proven leadership experience, including development of successful academic and research programs and active engagement in philanthropy.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
